You often don’t think too much about your heating system and expect it to work perfectly all 365 days in a year. It does what it is meant for, supplying a continuous supply of hot water and meeting all your heating requirements. But when a fault develops in the system, it throws your home into total chaos. While some of the boiler problems could be addressed without the need to call an engineer. There are other technical problems that will require the help of qualified and trained professional. Here are some of the things you could do about the common problems: Leaking issues Many reasons can cause your boiler to leak, and it depends on where the boiler is leaking from. If you have a gas boiler never attempt to repair it yourself and rather call an engineer. It mostly happens because of a broken internal component such as a pressure valve or a valve seal. If the pump seal is broken, then it might have worn out and requires replacement. rnThe pipes that give away to corrosion should always be diagnosed and serviced by a professional. Never attempt to carry out such repairs on your own as you might end up hurting yourself. Gurgling noises This normally is due to air in the system, or the water pressure is too low due to kettling. This kettling is as a result of trapped air. Cheap radiators used inside the system might be one of the factors responsible for this. Pump failure is also one of the reasons behind these noises. In such cases, you may not be able to determine the exact nature of the problem or what is responsible for the noise. It better to call a professional otherwise you might end up doing more damage to the system. The boiler does not heat water If your boiler fails to heat water, you can get it done without calling a technician home. Conduct all the usual checks and then check the thermostat. Here if the temperature is set too low, then the boiler will only be capable of releasing cold water. Just turn on the thermostat to a higher temperature setting, and you are good to go. Ensure that you do not have any frozen pipes touching your system. This can be done manually by touching the pipes. If this does not help, then the problem probably lies elsewhere. In such cases consider calling a plumbers merchants in Birmingham who will take care of the job. Boiler keeps switching off/cutting off It could be a problem with your thermostat settings or due to a temporarily closed valve. The best way to go about it is to turn off the boiler and reset it. If this does not work just unplug the inlet and outlet pipes. After some time put them back after you have drained all the water. Be careful while touching the hot pipes as it might burn the skin. If the problem persists its best to call a plumbing professional and the get the boiler examined. Boiler loses water pressure The reason why boiler pressure drops is that your central heating system has probably malfunctioned. For this simply use a pressure gauge. There might be a leak in your heating system because of which the radiators might be bleeding. Check for leaks that are visible and if you find then get the system pressurised by an engineer. Many of the common problems with the boiler could be rectified at home. However, if the problems worsens, then it is best to get in touch with a professional. You will save a lot of money. You might end up damaging the boiler, and then the repairs would cost you even more.
