Getting pregnant can be a lot more difficult than it seems. The reality of infertility can be frustrating, life-altering, and stressful. The possibility of conceiving in any month is only 15-20%. In the United States, 6.7 million women aged 15 to 44 have trouble conceiving or carrying a baby to term. For Midtown West infertility help, seek the opinion of a doctor immediately.
What Are the Causes of Infertility?
1. Endometriosis
This is one of the most common causes of infertility. It is a disorder where tissues from your uterine lining grow out of the uterus. The disorder affects about 10% of women within the reproductive age bracket.
2. Ovulation Disorders
Almost a quarter of all infertility problems are caused by ovulation disorders. If you have an ovulation disorder, you may ovulate less frequently than normal or fail to ovulate at all. One of the most common ovulation disorders is Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Others include hypothalamic amenorrhea and ovarian insufficiency.
3. Cancer or Its Treatment
Certain types of cancer may impair a woman’s ability to conceive. Chemotherapy and radiation may also affect your fertility.
4. Tubal Factor
You may have tubal factor fertility when your fallopian tubes have a problem that makes it difficult or impossible for sperms to fertilize the egg.
5. Endometrial Polyps
Endometrial polyps is a condition where a growth appears in your uterine cavity. If you have big or multiple polyps, you are likely to have fertility problems. They may make it impossible for the embryo to implant. Smaller polyps may not be very dangerous.
6. Medication
Certain medications may impact your fertility. Speak with your fertility doctor before taking any medication. Both prescription and non-prescription drugs can be dangerous.
7. Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths that may develop in your uterus. About 40% of women have fibroids. However, it is not always an indicator of infertility.
If fibroids distort your uterine cavity, they could make it impossible for an embryo to implant. You may need surgery to deal with the problem.
8. Weight Extremes
If you are overweight or underweight, you may have trouble conceiving. Extreme weight may cause fluctuation of hormones leading to infertility.
9. Unexplained Causes
It is possible to struggle with fertility even when doctors cannot find a specific cause. A full fertility work-up is not always enough to determine the cause of infertility. Unexplained infertility does not mean that your fertility has no cause. It only means that the fertility test came out normal. Every case of infertility has a cause and you can always get treatment.
Risk
The risk factors for infertility include:
Age
Older women are likely to struggle with infertility. The fertility of a woman drops significantly after 37
Alcohol and Tobacco Use
Consuming alcohol and tobacco may reduce your fertility. They reduce the effectiveness of fertility treatments. Women who smoke are likely to suffer from miscarriages.
Manage Your Weight
Being underweight or overweight increases your risk of infertility. Attaining a healthy weight could resolve the problem.
If you need help with your fertility, consider seeking the help of a fertility specialist as soon as possible.
