Onsite data backup is very essential in the flourishing of any given business. This is simply because business data backup, helps in data loss disasters management in that it gives the owner of the business the capacity to recover any piece of data that he/she could have lost, and is essential in the provision of services to his/her clients. A good business data backup is not only efficient in data recovery but is also efficient in saving time that could be required to revisit the manual data backups that are used in traditional data recovery methods. When determining the right data backup to adopt for ones business, the following must be put into consideration:
Maintenance and management of the chosen backup system- it is advisable that one chooses the latest and the most affordable business data backup that is easy to manage and maintain. It is also good to avoid going for the traditional data backups like tapes or CD's as they require a lot of manual processes and lots of commitments from those assigned to the duties of managing them. Tapes are also time consuming and therefore inefficient for growing businesses.
Expenditure/affordability- one should go for the most affordable data backup system as compared to the size of his/her business. When choosing which backup to use, the value of the data in question should be taken into account before making a choice. Choosing a cheap backup for high value data might not be good simply because at times the price of a data backup system can reflect its efficiency. In most cases, cheap things tend to be of low quality and hence the saying “cheap is expensive”. It would also be in-economical for an individual to go for expensive backups when the total income of his/her business is too low.
Scalability of the system- when choosing a business data backup, one should choose a backup that is dynamic and is capable of creating room for advancement in technology and hence pave way for new technological adoptions by the business. The system should also cope with an increase in the productivity of the business as the business expands.
Accessibility- the data backup chosen should be readily accessible when needed. Backup systems that take too long to be accessed can be inconvenient to a business when there is need for an immediate data recovery for full functionality of the business.
Reliability- one should choose the most reliable form of business data backup that is 100% efficient in data recovery process. This is vital or essential in the smooth running of the business in that in cases where there is data loss, an entrepreneur will have nothing to worry about as he/ she will rest assured that he/ she will still get the data back.
Human error- due to an avoidable occurrences of human errors, one should employ highly skilled professionals alongside installing efficient data backups. This will greatly aid in reducing the risks of losing the data as a result of human errors. In cases where there is sharing of duties among a number of employees, a calm working environment should always be created so that chaos do not arise in the mid of the job. This is simply because chaos can increase the probabilities of human errors occurrence and hence the business can suffer a big blow simply because the likelihood of losing the data will be high.
Security- when keeping onsite business data backup, it is advisable that securities such as fire proofs are taken into account. This will ensure safety of the system.
