The monsoon season is often referred to as the season joy as it provides relief to people from the scorching heat of the sun. However, it is also the season of dampness and humidity that can aggravate the risk of various infectious diseases. Health experts assert that the monsoon season fosters humid and moist conditions that assist bacterial formation and growth. This increases the risk of various bacterial and viral infections that may lead to serious health complications. Thus, people should always decide on certain preventive measures for safeguarding their families against the risk of monsoon diseases. Here are some of the most common monsoon diseases that you should know about: Common Cold and Flu (Influenza) Common cold and flu is one of the most common monsoon diseases in India. It is a highly contagious disease that infects the upper respiratory tract, eventually affecting the nasal areas and throat. Runny nose, throat irritation, sore throat, body ache, and fever are some of the most common symptoms associated with influenza. However, taking certain preventive measures like frequent hand washing, ensuring a balanced and nutritious diet, strengthening immunity, etc. can help people in minimizing the risk of the respective viral infection. Dengue and Malaria Dengue and Malaria are serious mosquito-borne diseases that are typically incited by tiger mosquito (Aedes Aegypti) and female anopheles mosquito respectively. Headache, fever, muscle pain, weakness, etc. are some of the most common symptoms of malaria. In case of dengue, people may experience severe joint pain, swollen lymph nodes, hypersensitivity, and rash along with fever and muscle pain. Since both the diseases are primarily caused by mosquito bites, wearing full sleeve clothing, using skin-friendly mosquito repellents, avoiding unhygienic places, and discarding potential mosquito breeding spots are some of the important preventive measures that people should adhere to in order to stay protected. Typhoid Typhoid is a highly infectious water borne disease that is primarily caused by a bacteria known as Salmonella. Health experts suggest that the respective illness is typically a result of poor sanitation habits and consumption of contaminated food or water. High fever, headache, dry cough, sweating, severe abdominal pain, constipation, and vomiting are some of the most common symptoms associated with the disease. Drinking clean and boiled water, ensuring proper sanitation and hygiene, and getting proper vaccinations are some of the important preventive measures one should take to keep the disease at bay. Stomach infections Infections like diarrhoea, vomiting, and abdominal pain are some of the most common stomach ailments that tend to hit people during the monsoon season. They are primarily a result of poor and unhygienic diet that can hamper the functioning of the digestive system. However, they are non-serious problems that can be treated easily with pharmaceutical products manufactured by the top pharmaceutical companies in India. rnApart from the above-mentioned diseases, people also share an increased risk of other infections like jaundice, viral fever, cholera, and chikungunya during the monsoon season. Fortunately, these diseases are both preventable as well as treatable with medical assistance.
