Skin care is big business in our flawless skin society. Billions upon billions of dollars are spent each year by consumers looking for that magic product. The truth is that no one has perfect skin. While a handful of people may very little blemishes due to hereditary, most of us have some kind of skin issues that complicates things for good looking skin. So, let's discuss some skin conditions that may plague you and some treatments that you can try to clear it up. 1. ACNE This is most common skin condition people fight on a daily basis. Over 50 million people suffer from some level of acne and that is in the United States alone. What Causes Acne? Many people believe dirt causes pimples. That's not exactly true. Pimples form under the skin in a hair follicle. Your skin produces a oily substance called sebum that keeps your skin soft and moisturized. Sometimes sebum gets clogged in the pore by dead skin cells. This swells and irritates the skin and pimple is born. Some Tips to Prevent Acne: - Drink plenty of waterrn- Maintain healthy stress levelsrn- Consume a balance dietrn- Wash your face morning and night TREATMENTS: For mild acne, over-the-counter products with benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid should do the trick. For moderate to severe acne you will probably have to see your dermatologist for more advance treatments. 2. ROSACEA Rosacea is another common condition, yet little is still known on what causes it. It's estimated that over 16 million Americans suffer from this skin condition. SYMPTOMS: - Redness on face like cheeks, nose, chin, and foreheadrn- small blood vessels are visible on the face. - Can contain bump and/or pimplesrn- Redness in eyes Rosacea can lower self-confidence and could lead to avoiding public situations. TIPS: - Stay out of direct sunlight. This can increase redness. - Use mild cleansers with no perfume. - Limit warm water touching face. TREATMENTS: While there is no cure, some patients use creams and others go to their dermatologist for more advance treatments, like laser treatment. 3. PSORIASIS Psoriasis is another common skin condition. it causes skin redness and irritation. SYMPTOMS: - Itchyrn- Red skinrn- Thick, flaky patches called scales Psoriasis usually occurs between the ages of 15-35. TREATMENTS: There are ointments and lotions out there that can help lower visibility. Also, there are pills and injections that are used. While there is no cure, the best way to go to treat it is control symptoms and prevent infections. There you go with three common skin conditions. These are just three of many out there.
