Criminal law is might be distinguished because of the negative and adverse effects it can have on a society and also on an individual if not abided by. We are rightly fathomable of the certainty that the repercussions are severe and can range from a few months to a few years of imprisonment. A criminal conviction takes place when an individual is found guilty of a crime by a court of law and comes to a judgment. Exoneration is opposite of conviction. It would not be wrong to state that there are several flaws in criminal justice and because of these blemishes, innocent people are condemned and the guilty people are acquitted. A fault in the criminal justice that results in a conviction of an individual who is guiltless is known as a miscarriage of justice. Let’s take a look at the following mentioned objectives that are crucial for a society: 1) Retribution – The criminals commit errors and because of those errors, they are obliged to pay for what they have done to an individual or society. They need to experience some cons of criminal law for what they did which in turn, resulted in worst conditions for some. 2) Deterrence – There are two categories deterrence, which are the personal and general. In the personal category, the goal is to show the wrongdoer that he has done something wrong and that a penalty will be imposed on him. This will make him realize what he did was wrong and that prevent him from doing something wrong. While the general category implies that this will be a warning to everyone not to involve themselves in the same thing that was done by the criminal. 3) Incapacitation – This is one of the most renowned objectives that was designed to keep the criminals away from the society and from other individuals. 4) Rehabilitation – This aims in changing the criminal to accept his mistakes and have the willingness to change.
