Pregnancy is a natural process so obviously naturally occurring changes will be observed. Soon after conception various changes are observed in the body of the women. These changes are referred to as the pregnancy symptoms. In short pregnancy symptoms are the signs which determine whether a woman is pregnant or not in the early stages of the pregnancy. Once these symptoms are observed, it is advisable to go through the pregnancy tests which are the most convincing proof of pregnancy. Unlike pregnancy symptoms these tests do not predict their results from the changes occurring in the body, rather than these tests work on the analysis of hormones in the body.

Pregnancy symptoms: As mentioned earlier the pregnancy symptoms are the earliest signs or changes that are observed in the body of the female soon after the conception. Some of the most common symptoms of pregnancy are
1. Missed period
2. Swollen and tender breasts
3. Darkening of the areolas
4. Frequent urination
5. Food cravings
6. Morning sickness
7. Nausea
8. Pain in the abdominal region
9. Weight gain
10. Fatigue

Pregnancy tests: The pregnancy tests can be broadly classified into two categories namely the home pregnancy tests which are basically urine tests and the laboratory pregnancy tests which are basically blood tests. Before getting a detail analysis of these tests one thing should be made very much clear that both of these tests predict their result by measuring the amount of pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) inside the body.
1. Home pregnancy tests: This test is the simplest one and can be performed at home without any medical guidance. This is a urine test and the amount of hCG is measured in the urine of women. All one has to do is to place some drops of urine in the pregnancy test strips and after few moments if the amount of hCG is above a certain level then the pregnancy strip will show that the test is positive.
2. Laboratory pregnancy tests: These tests are more complex to perform than their home counterparts and are done only under the supervision of a physician. But the results provided are quantitative, that it can predict pregnancy much sooner than the urine test and can also predict any kind of complications that can arise at later stages. These tests are blood tests i.e., they work by measuring the amount of hCG in the blood.

Once the pregnancy symptoms are observed then it is always advisable to go through the pregnancy tests. If one is not satisfied by the results of urine tests then blood tests can be taken which gives a clear picture of pregnancy.
