Connery-The Man Behind the Voice

I can’t speak for every woman in the world, past or present, but the majority that I have spoken with cannot deny the allure the sound of Sean Connery’s voice has. He has one of those very unique and beloved sounds that makes many of the female gender weak in the knees whether he is narrating and holding everyone captive or acting in front of the camera. Moreover, I do believe none would argue that this man matures very well. He improves as he ages becoming more and more endearing. The road has been long for this very Knighted actor, beginning in 1957 and climbing steadily until 2003. In ‘06, Connery announced his retirement, for good. When we think of him on the screen, most of us immediately remember the Bond movies. Some say he loathed the character. Perhaps that is true, but Sean says that when you spend that much time “with” someone, it is hard not to care about them. He just didn’t enjoy it as much after a while. New directions tugged at his curiosity. In his years of acting, Sean has dabbled in a bit of everything. Some favorites include: The Man Who Would Be King, The Untouchables, Highlander, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, The Hunt for Red October, The Rock, and The Untouchables. He is considered a very noble man having played three different kings in his career and carries that diplomacy into his personal life as well. Working on a biography is on his to-do list, among other things in retired life. With a resume like his, that is a long book in the making. People had this notion that he never wanted to take on the project, but he has decided that it will happen. It is a story worth telling. It will be interesting to see how he sees himself compared to how the public has seen him. Before shooting films, Mr. Connery worked hard at laborious jobs like being a milkman, bricklayer, and a coffin polisher. He had done other things such as being an artist’s model for the Edinburgh art college and body building, coming in third place in the Mr. Universe competition in 1950. He was a member of the Royal Navy for some time until stomach problems forced him to stop. Normal jobs for an exceptional person. At 23, he had the opportunity to play football or be an actor. He would have made an amazing athlete for the sort of shape he was in at that age, but we are lucky that he chose the other path. ‘Presented with the American Film Institute's Lifetime Achievement Award by his Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989) co-star Harrison Ford who told him, "John Wayne gave us the old West.
