It takes a strong person to beat cancer back into remission, and even the strongest person can become exhausted by the process. When you finally get the news from your doctor that you’re officially in remission, chances are good that you desperately need some way to release the tension of being a cancer survivor. Finding a way to celebrate the news of your remission can be a great way to relieve stress and share the happy moment with people you love. Take a look at some great ways to celebrate your remission. Go on Vacation If you’ve ever wanted to take a cruise or fly overseas, now is the time to do it. You may not have felt comfortable leaving the country – or even your local area – just in case you had a medical emergency. Now that you’re in remission, you don’t have to worry as much, so seize the day! Grab your favorite travel partner, call your travel agent, book some tickets, and take off for an exciting adventure, or some rest and relaxation – whichever suits you the best. Join a Cancer Event If you’ve never participated in a walk, run, relay, or other event to raise money for cancer research and treatments, now is a great time to do so. If possible, look for an event designated for your specific type of cancer. You’ll meet other survivors like yourself, and you’ll help bring hope to people who haven’t yet hit remission themselves. Throw a Party If ever there was a reason to break out the balloons, streamers, and party hats, getting the news that your cancer is in remission is it. Why not take a day – or a weekend – to celebrate your new lease on life with all of your friends and family members? Hire a caterer, decorate the house by buying decorations from Oriental Trading with the cancer awareness ribbon color that corresponds to your illness (to save money, you can also use Oriental Trading Company coupons from DiscounTrue). Give Back Not every cancer patient is lucky enough to have a great support system. If you’re in remission and feel that you’d like to help out someone who is still struggling with cancer, talk to your local cancer center about volunteering. You could be a chemo buddy for someone who doesn’t have anyone to keep them company during treatments. Organize a Fundraiser There are many different types of cancer, and not all of them have an instantly recognizable ribbon color or highly publicized awareness events. If you were affected by one of the lesser known cancers, consider celebrating your own remission by organizing an awareness event or a research fundraiser that can help a lot of other people make it to where you are. However you decide to celebrate, make sure that you take the time to do something. You’ve gone through a lot to get to where you are right now, and you deserve to do something special to commemorate the event.
