Consult A Gynaecologist From Prenatal To Postnatal Care

There is very low perinatal mortality rate in the US and the Europe. The reason is the specialized prenatal care given to the expectant mother and the devoted health care which is supplied to them by the family doctor, health visitor, community midwife, obstetrician, gynaecologist, pediatrician, and neonatologist. When a woman feels that she is pregnant, the family doctor is consulted at first. It is expected that the doctor is a part of community health centre. The person may be a GPO, i.e. a family doctor who is adept at the care of pregnant women and children. Some antenatal clinics are run by few GPs.

The registered general nurse plays the role of a health visitor. Generally they have at least three months experience in midwifery training in addition to one year technical course at an institute. The obstetrician is another doctor who is a specialist in looking after the pregnant women and the delivery complications. An obstetrician may be called a gynaecologist. One may perform the task of both a consultant obstetrician and a gynaecologist. The pediatrician specializes in the care of children upto their early teens. The neonatologist is nothing but a doctor who specializes in the care of children.

• If needed they can accelerate the progress of labor by infusing oxytocin hormone.

• To provide pain relief of a particular type as needed by the patient.

• To assist the labor surgically.

The postnatal treatment is provided to the mother and the baby following parturition. The important aspects of the health which are taken care during the period are general condition of the patient, pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate, temperature, dehydration, bowel movements and few other things.
