So, you’ve finally chosen to do something about your vision. Now that you’ve made that first step, you may want to consider talking to your optician about a contact lens fitting. The following is some basic information about what to expect during a lens fitting as well as some of the top companies that will have the best lenses for your eyes.
Upon arrival at your lens fitting, your visit will most likely begin with a short consultation between you and your doctor. He or she will need to know what your daily eye care routine is and if you cleanse your eyes daily and remove makeup (liner, mascara, shadow, etc.) before bed each night. This is important because redness and irritation are often caused by cosmetic allergies and your doctor will need to rule this out before proceeding. The rest of your consultation will most likely include questions about how long you’ve been experiencing vision problems and whether or not you’ve ever worn glasses.
A short eye exam will be conducted to determine the “scores” of your vision, after which you will begin your lens fitting. The doctor will measure the surface of your eye to determine the fit and comfort of the lens and then you’ll be asked to try on some different lenses.
Once you’ve finally found the perfect fit, the doctor will go over the basics of lens care with you. You’ll learn how to handle them, how to properly insert them each day, and correct cleaning and storage procedures. In order to make the lenses easier to put in, the doctor may also provide you with some eye drops to help lubricate the eye. Samples of different types of cleansing solutions are also often given.
After about two weeks, you will need to follow up with your doctor. He or she will check to make sure that there are no additional issues with your eyes and that the lenses you were given are the best possible option for your eyes. During this visit, your doctor may also make additional suggestions regarding your lenses, such as replacing them with glasses while driving or reading to help give your eyes some time to rest.
