Imagine being able to walk into any situation, with any person, knowing that you are not only able to guarantee that they will like and respect you but also that you can suggest ideas that they will adopt a their own. Welcome to the world of conversational hypnosis. Imagine he possibilities for your future if you were able use that kind of skill. Believe me it makes a positive difference to nearly every aspect of your life.

So, how can you hypnotize someone? Well one thing you don't need is a pocket watch or googly eyes or even mystical incantations. Modern conversational hypnosis is all about using scientifically proven psychological and linguistic techniques not some sort of 'magic.' It works on the principle that when we have our conscious minds entirely focused upon something we leave our subconscious relatively unguarded. As the subconscious is the place we store all memorized experiences and these, in turn, inform our decision making, any changes made there will ultimately have a significant impact upon us. The conversational hypnotist can take full advantage of this principle. They can induce something called an 'open trance' simply by talking to someone and are then able make those changes, via suggestion, to the person subconscious.

However, whilst that explains the underlying principle of conversational hypnosis how can you hypnotize someone in a real world situation. One of the great advantages of conversational hypnosis over other forms of hypnosis is the fact that you can use it in more or less any circumstances. Whilst some forms of hypnotism require special therapeutic environments conversational hypnosis doesn't. This opens up the possibility that you can hypnotize someone in a normal, social situation such as the work place or in a bar.

The first thing you need to do is grab someones attention. Once you are familiar with conversational hypnosis you will soon learn that there are effective an ineffective ways to do this. You don't want them to notice you for something they disapprove of but rather, even at this initial stage, you should be trying to gain their 'unconditional positive regard.' In short, you want them to like you. Again learning proper conversational hypnotism will enable you to use subtle boy language and behavioral techniques to make sure this happens efficiently.

Once you have got the right kind of positive attention, and once again there are technique that you can learn, such as 'mirroring,' which will pretty much ensure this, you can introduce yourself. You can then start the process of building what is called rapport with them. This means that you use a combination of subtle linguistic techniques, carefully controlled body language and an appreciation of psychological triggers to win their trust and respect. A good conversational hypnotist can do this incredibly quickly.

We each have within us an innate sense of our personal reality. We use this to make value judgments about the information we receive through our senses. This is often referred to as the “critical factor.” Basically it helps us to make proper sense of the world. In order to have your suggestions accepted at a subconscious level you need to overcome the critical factor. Building a good rapport with someone makes them more inclined to believe hat you have to say So rapport building is an essential element of ultimately overcoming the critical factor. Simply put, how can you hypnotize someone if they neither trust nor value what you have to say?

As we said earlier the conversational hypnosis 'window of opportunity is when the person being hypnotized is in 'open trance.' Different methods of hypnosis use different techniques to 'induce' trance. In conversational hypnosis this is achieved through process called 'captivation.' Basically, through the use of powerful visual imagery, positive reinforcement and other linguistic techniques the conversational hypnotist is able to 'captivate' the person they are talking with. Done correctly the person will then be in the 'open trance.' That is to say that they will be so focused upon their conversation with the hypnotist that they present an opportunity for the the hypnotist to access their subconscious.

By using predetermined patterns, metaphor and allusion the conversational hypnotist can introduce concepts almost imperceptibly into the conversation. These will go largely unnoticed by the person being hypnotized but will instead be absorbed by their subconscious. Therefore, in doing so, the conversational hypnosis process is actually changing the way the person thinks, their attitudes and motivations. This is why conversational hypnosis is such a powerful technique.

Of course, as with any other acquired skill, learning the fundamental processes involved in conversational hypnosis is just the start. There can be no substitute for real world experience and this means that you will need to practice on real people. The thing is not to worry about making a fool of yourself, as you almost certainly will to start with, and don't be concerned that you could cause anyone any long lasting psychological damage with inept technique. Even if you get it horribly wrong the only damage will probably be to your own sense of pride. However, if you persist your technique will improve and you'll soon become proficient in the use of conversational hypnosis.
