Kitchens build inside a conservatory would have been inconceivable just a few years ago, but now thanks to improvements in conservatory design it is becoming a popular choice. Some would argue the best example of this is practice is when traditional kitchens are built within Edwardian conservatories. Edwardian conservatories are one of the most popular styles of conservatory in the UK. You can spot this style of conservatory a mile off with its high roof, rectangular shape and clean lines. Traditional kitchens, as you can image, look great in this classic style of conservatory. There are practical concerns too as this type of conservatory has more space than most. If you plan to move your kitchen into the conservatory there are two ways to do this. You will first need to decide whether you want to extend your kitchen, or move it completely out into the conservatory. Which ever option you choose the Edwardian conservatory is a great option. You certainly have enough space to build a kitchen due to the typical size of this style of conservatory. Having a high roof is helpful in giving space for an extractor fan, and with a rectangular shape almost any kitchen design will fit well inside the room. Equally the Edwardian conservatory lends itself very well to a kitchen extension as the style looks a little more like a natural extension of the kitchen. The practicalities of the design will be a big part of your decision when it comes to relocating or extending. You may already be aware that when you place a kitchen inside a conservatory, when it comes to planning regulations the structure is no longer treated as a conservatory.Planning regulations such as those applying to heat loss will apply to the structure when it starts to be treated as a normal building rather than a conservatory. For most people, avoiding the need to comply with building regs is preferable, although there is no reason why a well built conservatory shouldnt be able to comply with the regulations. As long as the conservatory remains separated from the house by an external door (which need not actually be shut) and is free from kitchen appliances, there is no need to comply with normal building regulations. This is probably the best argument for extending the kitchen using a conservatory, rather than completely relocated it. The traditional kitchen always was large, so an extended kitchen will work very well.
