Whether they are teaching a soothing, restorative yoga class or a blood-pumping, physical form of “power” yoga, or any one of the many kinds of yoga in between, all yoga instructors have several threads in common. For one, yoga instructors work with members of the public, from one on one private sessions to small groups to large classes. For this reason, it is a good idea that all yoga instructors seek and secure a solid yoga instructor liability insurance policy. Yoga instructor liability insurance is there to protect yoga teachers from any one of the many unexpected occurrences that could unfold in and around a yoga practice. When a person is working with the public, whether that person is a yoga instructor or a clothing retailer, it is important to have coverage for factors that can be out of one’s control. For example, one of the key components of yoga instructor liability insurance is going to be general liability insurance. Also know as “slip and fall” insurance, this aspect of your coverage is going to protect you in case someone slips, trips, falls or otherwise has a harmful accident on the property where you teach yoga. A scenario such as a student tripping over a yoga mat and breaking her wrist could result in a lawsuit if the student decides to go that route. In such a situation, you would be mighty glad to have general liability insurance on your side. This type of accident insurance is one of the main reasons nearly every person who does business with the public takes the time to secure liability insurance. Of course, there are several other forms of protection that come along with a strong yoga insurance policy. One of these coverage categories is malpractice insurance. This is the kind of protection that kicks in in case one of your yoga students claims damage or injury due to a lack of skills or competence on your part as the yoga instructor. For instance, if one of your yoga students believes that the method in which you had him hold a pose caused or contributed to an injury, then that student might take it upon himself to sue you for malpractice. Certainly, it is hard to imagine any one of your yoga students making such a claim, but liability insurance is in existence exactly because of these rare but entirely possible happenings. Among the other aspects of protection you should receive upon enrolling in a solid yoga teacher insurance program are product liability insurance, rental damage coverage, reimbursement for lost or stolen equipment and even identity theft protection. Besides the amazing peace of mind you will get when you have such thorough protection, the best thing about a good yoga instructor liability insurance policy may be its reasonable rate. For less than a couple hundred dollars each year, you can have all the security that comes with yoga instructor liability insurance. Do your homework, and find the right policy for you and your yoga practice.
