Question:n nI've always wanted to live a life based around helping others and developing the world around me. For some reason unknown to me ; and I'm not trying to blow my own trumpet here - I innately can't resist helping people. When my friends ask me for favours I jump at the chance. When asked to cover a peers shift because it will be doing them a favour, I just say "Yeah of course I can!". It's something I'm widely criticised for however. Not that I generally care what critics think. Alot of people I know tell me I'm crazy for doing ridiculous shifts at work to help a friend, or that I'm crazy for giving little kids my spare change away. My question Deepak is thus ; am I wrong for wanted to be nice to the world? Is it wrong that I want to help everyone; which if I am honest - tends to be at the expense of myself? Am I the crazy one; or is everyone else?n nAnswer:n nYou are not crazy for being helpful and nice to others. This is obviously just your nature. You are not doing it gain the approval of others, so if you feel better by giving of yourself to others rather than withholding, then you are doing what you need to do. n nThis doesn’t mean everyone else is crazy, they just don’t understand because that kind of generosity of the soul is not their nature. What you will want to be alert to is finding where your limits of giving are. Discovering your boundaries of generosity will be important in your growth as will learning how to say ‘no’ to a request when it is beyond your ability. After all, not being able to resist helping others can become a psychological trap as strong as the others’ unwillingness to help. So continue to follow your natural generosity, but make sure you can do it from a place of conscious balance and ease.n nLove,nDeepak
