Create a Ringtone For Your iPhone with iTones

By default, your iPhone already comes with a number of varied ringtones (also called ringtones). Although I'm sure that there is something for everyone between these 25 ringtones, I can also imagine that you want a unique (or at least special) ringtone and you can do-it-yourself. The easiest way to do that is to make one yourself. Although there are several methods to do that, in this article I only discuss the method of doing this via iTunes. So you do not have to buy extra software and you can finish it with what you already have. Choose a song for your free iPhone ringtone The first step is of course choosing which number you want to use. This number must meet a number of criteria. First, it must not have copy protection (DRM). Some providers of digital music files place this security, so you can not pass on the numbers to your friends. Secondly, it is important that you can limit the song or iphone ring tone to 30 seconds. Such as a song with a long intro, good drum solo or quiet construction. Finally, you have to make sure that it is something you really want to hear when you receive a call. No matter how much fun you might find a song, in the end it is different when it happens when your phone rings. Also take into account social conventions; certain texts may not be as suitable if your phone suddenly goes off during a formal appointment. Have you found a suitable number? Then we move on to the next step. Prepare the number for conversion to ring tone. We have to make an AAC version of the file at the beginning of the process, if this is still MP3. We do this in QuickTime Player, which is also included for free on your Mac and is normally used mainly for video playback. In iTunes, go to the number you want to use and right click on it. From here you can look up the file in the Finder via Toon in Finder. Do this and then right click on the file in the Finder. Now use the Open with option to open the file with the built-in QuickTime Player. Is your song longer than 30 seconds? Then it is important that you shorten this first. This can be done in QuickTime Player via the Edit menu with the option Short in. You can remove from the beginning or the end, that does not matter, as long as you end up below 30 seconds. A number longer than 30 seconds will not be accepted as a ringtone. Is your ring tone below 30 seconds? Then you can now convert the MP3 to AAC. From the File menu, choose Export and then Only Audio ... to create an AAC file. Place it in an easy-to-find location, such as your Desktop. Note that this AAC file has the extension ".m4a" and not ".aac". After exporting, close QuickTime Player and open the Finder. Select the AAC version on your desktop and press Enter / Return (↩) to rename the file. All you have to change is the .m4a in .m4r. Double-click this file to add it to iTunes, or drag it to the iTunes icon. When you connect your iPhone to iTunes (for example via the USB cable), and go to the Tones tab, you can indicate whether you want to synchronize the ringtone. Check this and synchronize your iPhone. Set the ringtone on your iPhone Open the Settings app on your iPhone and go to Sounds. At Ringtone you now find, at the top, you will your self-made or your downloaded iPhone ringtone. Tap it once to set it up and hear a sample. Make sure your sound is on, call yourself with a different phone and listen to your new ringtone: you've succeeded!
