Published March 6, 2018
How can I create and set my own ringtone? Smartphone.nl explains how you do that for your iPhone or Android.
Make ringtone for iPhone
You can easily set up a ringtone via 'Settings> Sounds> Ringtone'. However, you can not set your own ringtone or make a specific selection of the ringtone. Maybe you just want to set the chorus of your favorite song or your own drum solo as your ringtone. You can download iphone ringtones and songs and you can do that via iTunes on your computer or laptop.
Before you can hear your own ringtone on your iPhone, you have to go through a number of steps. Follow the steps below to create and set your own ringtone.
- Open iTunes on your computer, add the music file in the program and right-click on the number and choose 'Show info';
- Then go to the 'Options' tab. Now set the start and end times for the number you want and click on 'OK'. The maximum length for a ringtone on your iPhone is 30 seconds so do not choose a longer selection;
- Now go to 'File> Convert> Create version for AAC' on the home screen. Now the song is in the iTunes list with the correct play time;
- The mp3 file has now been changed from extension to a m4a file. Select this file click on the right mouse button and choose 'Show in Windows Explorer'. To be able to play the file as a ringtone on your iPhone, change the extension again to m4r. You do this in Windows Explorer. If this does not work, turn off "Hide extensions for unknown file types" in "Control Panel â Folder Options â View";
