Instead of saying that you will exercise everyday, you can aim for a 15 minute walk after dinner each day. Create measurable goals: Try combining the quantity aspects to the quality factor of your goals. An objective measuring of your progress is just one of the things you can achieve by doing this. Instead of just setting a time period to lose weight which would be a quality, you also want to look at how many pounds you want to lose, and that would be quantity. You could for example eat an extra serving of something such as fruit, salad or vegetables (quantity) for the day instead of focusing on eating less (quality). This is can be a way to track your progress. Incentives for reaching goals: Whenever you reach a goal it is good to have an incentive to keep going. Human beings react to situations differently, but even as children, people crave positive reinforcement as a motivator. We appreciate the rewards, be it in a physical or a psychological form, because we are more motivated to aim higher and to do better. You will this to be no different when setting goals to lose weight. Aim at achievable goals you know you can reach easily. For example, aim to lose 2 pounds this week. To reach the highest goal, you will need something to keep you going, so reward yourself along the way for reaching your incremental goals. You should now realize that a series of small steps is all that it takes for safe and effective weight loss. Once you get those smaller steps under control, it will be time to take larger steps, until you find success.
