Many people have heard about the concept of creative visualization but have no understanding over what it really means. Should an attempt be made, they get into a panic when they find themselves unable to conjure a mental image when they close their eyes. Hence, there is a tendency to believe that creative visualization does not work.
So why is it that some are able to quickly able to create visualizations, while others seem to have more trouble at it? Does this mean that some people are just naturally better at visualizing their goals than others?
The reason is surprisingly simple: it is because our minds are blocked by our attempts from trying too hard. People who have trouble with visualization might believe that there is one correct way to do it – and if they cannot grasp the technique on the first go, then their methods are inadequate or wrong.
If this sounds all-too-familiar to you, then here is a piece of advice you cannot afford to miss out on: relax! When it comes to creative visualization, there is no one-size-fits-all method. In fact, visualization techniques are as diverse as the people who use them. So if you are having trouble with the term "visualize", do not worry about it – lots of people need practice before they can master creative visualization!
In fact, forget the word "visualize" altogether: it is not hundred percent necessary to see a mental image. While some people may instantly see a sharp mental picture when they think of their goals and dreams, others get a strong feeling or sense of them. So if you are dreaming of a beach vacation and can’t seem to get a picture of the perfect getaway, do not worry about it – just feel yourself there, and you will be harnessing the amazing powers of mental imagery.
After all, each one of our minds is as unique and special as we are. Some people have minds that respond instantly to pictures and visuals, while others possess more auditory minds – in other words, their minds really come to life listening to sounds and music. And don’t forget about those kinesthetic minds, as they really respond to touches, feelings and sensations!
When it comes to visualization, there are two paths that our minds take to help us achieve our ultimate goals and dreams: the receptive path and the active path. The receptive path means that our minds simply relax and soak in the images and impressions that appear in our mind’s eye. This kind of path is often referred to as "letting your mind wander"; you do not choose the thoughts that flit through your mind.
The active path is when we decide to consciously create and choose our own thoughts, goals and dreams. Both of these paths are equally important in the visualization process, as they allow your mind to fully comprehend just how powerful your thoughts really are. And after a few practice sessions, your visualization techniques will soon become strong enough to master both of these paths without much trouble.
So whether you choose to "see" or "feel" your goals and dreams, let creative visualization reveal to you the amazing power of your own mind!
