Beyoncé Giselle Knowles is an American R&B singer, songwriter, record producer, music video director, actress, and dancer, whom rose to fame as the creative force and lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time.
Knowles then released her first solo album Dangerously in Love, in June 2003, and in no time the album became one of the biggest commercial successes of the year, topping the albums charts in the United States and the United Kingdom. With its number-one singles "Crazy in Love" and "Baby Boy", Knowles earned five Grammy Awards in a single night in 2004.
Apart from being a popular singer and songwriter, Beyoncé Knowles is also a fashion designer that introduced the popular fashion clothing line house of dereon.
House of dereon is a prêt-à-porter fashion line introduced by singer Beyoncé Knowles and her mother/stylist Tina Knowles. The style and concept is inspired by three generations of women in their family, with the name "Deréon" paying tribute to Beyoncé's grandmother, Agnèz dereon.
Back when Beyoncé Knowles was still on the Destiny’s Child, her mother Tina would design and sew their outfits, especially when the group was first starting out and did not have much money or access to designer clothing. Part of what called attention to Destiny's Child, besides their obvious talent, was their one-of-a-kind fashions. Their style set them apart, yet gave the group cohesion as a similar style, color or garment was worn by all the members.
The house of dereon clothing line was first introduced on The Oprah Winfrey Show. The house of dereon mixes hip-hop influences, such as its use of denim, with ultra feminine flourishes like embroidery and ruffles.
In an interview, Beyoncé revealed where she got the inspiration of the house of dereon. She said that the house of dereon was inspired from three generation of clothing line, the generation of her mother Tina Knowles and the generation of her grandmother Agnez Dereon.
It is also reported hat Beyoncé has an active role in the house of dereon design department, approving and discussing fashion designs and ideas.
