The company will only be considered as a true global company if it will make use of available intellectual manpower from any parts of the world. Outsourcing is what businesses call the farming out of company departments/jobs abroad. It is a business strategy nowadays that companies use to improve service levels, quality of work and to cut operational costs to increase business revenue.

First let us have an overview of the job. It involves the efficient and smooth handling of company information such as customer personal information, processing of orders, transcribing medical documents, copy pasting information researched for a client, editing of documents and transferring them from one format to another and the like. All of these are performed using a personal computer at the home of the subcontracted service provider. The home based service provider communicates to the client company via the Internet.

Jobs are usually outsourced to countries such as Philippines, India and Singapore. These countries are developed in terms of intellectual capital. One of the jobs commonly outsourced offshore is data entry. However, with the rising incidents of identity thief and piracy is it safe to outsource offshore data entry jobs?

The risks of outsourcing data entry work are the following:

1 . Trade Secrets

Every company is anchored to a certain knowledge that makes it unique to others. It is vital to guard this knowledge and to weigh carefully whether certain information can be handled by outsourced service providers or by your in-house personnel only.

2. Data Protection

It is important that the service providers you employ have very healthy data security practices and they have to meet your internal data security standards otherwise your intellectual property rights, trade secrets and your customers’ privacy will be jeopardized.

3. Slow out tu
Jobs outsourced are usually project oriented. While some service providers are fast in the completion of assignments to ensure prompt payment most have difficulty in keeping up with deadlines sometimes due to multiple projects received at one time, family issues, health condition and others. It is therefore important that you get the services of an intermediary or a third party who will help should problems arise and you have to put up a back-up plan should your outsourced service provider fails.

There are benefits and risks in outsourcing jobs and it is up to your company to balance the risks and benefits. If you are interested to outsource your data entry jobs either onshore or offshore you may check some data entry programs in the country such as National Data Entry. Their subscribers are trained data entry specialist and they come from different parts of the world such as Southeast Asia.
