In today's world, it seems as though outgoing people have a greater level of approval; and because of this, it tends to make shy people feel abnormal, or even out or place. Dating can be very stressful for shy people, but it does not have to be. A shy person can meet new and interesting people by simply looking for similar groups or people that have the same interests and hobbies that they do.

A reserved person must approach the thought of dating with a positive, open mindset. If they approach it with negativity, everything that can go wrong - will go wrong. Hence, positivity is a necessity. Not only does optimism emit a friendly vibe, people like to be around positive, cheerful people. So put a smile on your face and imagine dating as an exciting venture.

The following tips offer a few helpful ideas that will make shyness not such a big deal.

1. Smile And Be Friendly

Smiling is the universal gesture of friendliness. You can't go wrong when you smile. A simple smile could mean the difference between meeting someone, or not.

For instance, suppose you are at an event and you see someone standing there by themselves. Are you more likely to walk over to them and say hello if they are smiling, or if they appear stoic or indifferent?

It's a known fact that smiling creates confidence. When you meet someone for the first time, even if you do not know exactly what to say or do - just smile. If you cannot find the words, a smile says it all.

2. Build Your Confidence One Step At A Time

Most often, shyness stems from a lack of confidence or self-doubt. Boost your confidence incrementally by taking small steps.

Before putting yourself out there on the dating scene, do things for yourself that make you feel good about yourself such as buying new clothes, changing your hair style, or starting a new workout routine.

Not only will these make you feel better in general, they will increase your confidence to meet new people anytime or anywhere.

3. Date Where It's Comfortable For You

Just because it's considered "normal" for people to meet in a crowded bar or restaurant when they are in the beginning stages of getting acquainted, doesn't mean you have to.

If you detest crowds, there's nothing wrong with meeting someone in a casual coffee shop or a quiet park.

4. Online Dating

Online dating may be something you feel more comfortable with since it avoids the issue of being put on the spot.

Outgoing individuals do well at engaging in spontaneous conversations. However, people who tend to be shy and reserved are a bit more reluctant to engage in deep conversations with people they aren't familiar with.

This is why online dating can be a huge advantage. You have the option of responding to messages and people within your own comfort level. It's a somewhat slower, less invasive style of meeting someone.

It's hard enough to focus on meeting a new person, let alone the irritating distractions of a place you are not comfortable with.

5. Ask Your Friends For Help

Don't be afraid to ask for help if you have trouble meeting people or feel shy around others. Your true friends will already know this and will surely be willing to help you.

Ask them how to go about establishing a rapport with someone. Eliciting their help, will give you even more confidence to find that special someone.
