It is very interesting that a area called the "Dead Sea" is, actually, so life-enhancing to us humans. Virtually entirely devoid of having life due to its very high deposits of minerals and salt, there are only some types of algae and bacteria which have been able to adapt to this harsh natural environment. Yet it is the natural elements that are famous the world over for their restorative merits and healing properties - most notable dead sea salt and dead sea mud.

In the Jordan Valley Rift, just southerly of the city of Jericho inside the Middle East, the Dead Sea can be found almost 1,400 ft below sea level and its shores are the lowest level on dry earth. Among the saltiest bodies of water on the earth it boasts a huge 33.7% salinity and that's about 8 times saltier than almost all of the planet's oceans.

One of the biggest reasons for this is because of the fact that you will not get much rain fall falling across the Dead Sea. With only 3 ins of added water to the overall volume, the Dead Sea has not got the opportunity to thin down the Dead Sea Salt from its content.

Composed of quite a few minerals not so abundantly within sea salt such as Iodine, Calcium, Potassium, Bromine, Sulphur and Magnesium, the Dead Sea and dead sea salt is well known to have restorative healing attributes. For hundreds of years, afflictions like psoriasis, arthritis, rheumatism, eczema, respiratory problems and allergies have been relieved by the barometric pressure within the local area, the exceptional sunbathing possibilities and by bathing inside the waters of the Dead Sea. In fact historic celebrities such as King Herod, Cleopatra and the Queen of Sheba utilised the mineral-infused mud obtained from the Dead Sea in order to broaden their capillary arteries, which increased blood circulation for both medicinal and aesthetic purposes.

Even though all of this seems great, the Dead Sea is shrinking in size. The nearby cities of the Jordan River all seem to be pulling from it in order to re-supply their own water. When the Jordan River decreases in size then it replenishes itself by pulling from the Dead Sea. This is such a massive conce
simply because the Dead Sea is reducing by a foot and a half of water every year. If this keeps up without measures being put into place it's going to wholly disappear by the year 2050. Regrettably there has not been an agreed upon resolution, as it needs help from the global community. If the Dead Sea cannot get the assistance it requires we'll lose Dead Sea Salts and all of it's health benefits for a long time.
