Parental alienation is a syndrome that is caused when a child connotes feelings of great dislike and even hatred with regard to one parent. The feelings are often unjustified and they also make it hard for the rejected father or mother to bond or communicate with the child. Many circumstances lead to these kinds of feelings. They might be ignited by the negative remarks a child hears from one parent in regards to the other. These feelings in a child are generally seen in a separation and divorce scenario where feelings of the father and mother may run over and have an effect on the way a child feels and what they think. Parents can be caught up in their own turmoil as they focus on concerns like child custody and allocation of assets. Where the issues of the divorce are hurtful and painful, like a dishonest spouse, it's usually hard for one parent to conceal their disdain and anger with regards to the other spouse and they might unwillingly impact the feelings of the child. Seeing and hearing close family chat about the other parent negatively, discussions where insults tend to be thrown about and reference to what one parent did wrong can make a child believe they hate one parent and make them distance themselves from them. So does discovering a parent being reckless, regarding how they mishandle funds, their being users or abusers of illicit drugs and additional behavior that may have resulted in the marriage or relationship to collapse. A parent may disclose this to a child knowingly or unintentionally. One parent may want to get back at the other by turning a child against them. It is crucial for parents to understand that the attempts to get revenge on the other by turning the kids against them can backfire . The child may resent the parent who tells them adverse things about the other parent. The child could also dislike the blaming parent for not forgiving the parent who may have done something wrong with regard to holding the household together. What might then arise might be that the child or children may alienate both parents when they feel unsatisfied by both of them. A marriage or romantic relationship is a place where one gets a great part of their identity, their support as well as their perseverance. As a result the origins of these associations are extremely profound and they are associated with those of a child or children in the marriage. Yet as frustrating as it is, a parent needs to do all that may be possible to recover from the marriage or relationship with little disturbance of the children's lives. The correct and good thing to do for the child is to always reassure them that both dad and mom love them as much as ever even though they won't be married. Consider, what a child sees is what they are prone to duplicate in their own relationships and marriages.
