For a woman, nothing can be more disconcerting that to suffer dissatisfaction in bed because of sexual pain disorders. There are in fact two common such pain disorders and they affect a large number of women. The first of these female disorders is that of Dyspareunia. This is where the women experience pain when there is an attempt at penetration. The pain can be in the vagina or can be in the pelvic region. The illness can be from a vaginal infection or even a vaginal or vulvular operation that you may have had. Another cause for this situation is when you are heading toward menopause and there is a thinning of the vaginal wall. Another sexual pain disorder that women commonly experience is that of Vaginismus. This is a constant and rather persistent contraction of the muscles that are on the outer portion of the vagina. This contraction happens involuntarily. There is another kind of sexual pain affliction and this can be caused by a sexual stimulation that is not necessarily related to intercourse. There are several ways in which this sexual pain disorders can be treated and the solution varies from one woman to another. The causes can range from being physical, emotional and even a combination of the two. While sometimes the cause is medical and can be identified easily and treated, other times it is not so easy. Some of the common solutions to these issues are a hormone replacement therapy – this is a mix of estrogen and progestin. This will prevent the vaginal wall from itching or wearing down any further. A vaginal estradiol ring can also be introduced in low doses and this is an increasingly popular means these days. For those women who are approaching menopause, the addition of testosterone to a woman’s body has shown to help. Another form of treatment is via antibiotics. These are often for vaginal and urinary tract infections which harbor parasites and bacteria. As soon as the pain based symptoms of these illnesses go past, and the infection cleared, the associated pain is reduced. Regular bladder infections too can lead to Dyspareunia. For vaginismus one of the common exercises is that of dilation which helps in opening up the vaginal wall. You will be able to condition your vagina for penetration. One of the recommended means of dilation is with the help of one’s fingers as well as a dilator. Being able to treat the illness on a emotional level as well is important and therefore meeting with the sexual therapist is also known to work wonders.
