Stomach flu is an illness of stomach and intestines, gastrointestinal tract. It has many causes, and the main cause of it are viruses. Bacteria and parasites belongs to a group of secondary causes of this illness. In order to prevent it, there are a lot of things you can do, but once stomach flu symptoms occur, there are several simple steps to follow in order to get better and relief from this illness. Stomach flu is also known as gastric flu or gastroenteritis. One thing in common for all causes of are stomach flu symptoms. Stomach flu symptoms are diverse, but one thing in common for all of them is that they have exhausting effect on our body and health in general!There are several types of causes for this illness, and no matter what cause it, symptoms are all the same in every case! Their period of incubation or period before occurrence depends on cause, as well as period of duration of illness and symptoms experience, but they would be all the same in almost all cases. You can expect to have minimum of two symptoms at the same time. So don’t be surprised if you find yourself having diarrhea and vomiting almost at the same time. Stomach flu symptoms are the worst on the first and second day of their appearances. They can be very frequent and even appear several at the same time. Their repetition is very often during several days of beginning of the illness, with slowly reducing tempo after those first several days. This time period between the contamination and performances of symptoms is known as incubation period. Pretty much, it depends on defense mechanisms of the host. The most common symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea! It can happen to a infected person to experience only one of those two symptoms, but it is not rare that both symptoms appear at the same time. When having diarrhea and vomiting at the same time, and especially if their frequency of occurrence is very often, even after first several days, there is possibility of dehydration! Dehydration appears when body fluids, which are lost during episodes of diarrhea and vomiting, are not replaced with fresh liquids in form of water, tea, or soup! To prevent dehydration it is important to take fluids and replace the lost fluids! Other symptoms that may occur to infected person are, in most cases, following the previous two symptoms, and their occurrence is periodical and not that frequent. Those symptoms include nausea, fever or higher temperature, headache, muscle ache, stomach cramps and chills, thirst. All these symptoms should last for several days with the increasingly rare occurrence and patient should get better in a several days. If these symptoms, especially diarrhea and vomiting, takes more than several days, and still continues with frequent appearances you should immediate visit your medical health provider and sick for special treatment. Stomach flu is not possible to cure with medications, however, there are some medications that can help with lowering the frequency of appearance of stomach flu symptoms. Those kind of medications are not made to deal with symptoms of stomach flu, rather they are made to deal with much more serious health conditions and to help people having those kind of symptoms apart from that bad health condition. Medications which can help with symptoms are Prochlorperazine and Metoclopramide. Those two medications are particular made to deal with nausea and vomiting, by lowering their frequency of occurrence! Since those medications can have severe side effects, it could be prescribed to you only by your doctor. You should never try to use those medications on your own, since you can only worsen your health condition. While experiencing the stomach flu symptoms, nutrition become the most important factor. Why is nutrition that important, is mainly because you are not able to eat regular meals, nor portions, than in order to get better and relief from symptoms, you must get your self on a proper liquid diet and with exception for small amounts of light foods. In order to stop symptoms and get better, for a first day or two, when symptoms are the strongest, you'll be not able to eat. During that period of time, you are recommended to take sips of water or herbs teas. Later on, when symptoms get lower frequency, you can take some crackers, banana, but light foods too. Stomach flu symptoms will decrease itself by the time passing. You must let your organism fight with this illness itself, and with good nutrition, you can get better in a short period of time!
