Take a moment to think about all of the things you have ever heard about online marketing. Now ask yourself how many of those things you think are true and how many were made up by marketers trying to sign clients up or naysayers trying to discredit the field. Sometimes, it can be difficult to tell what is true and what is not, which is why we have compiled this list of 3 common myths and shown you why they are wrong.
Myth #1: You can get great results by next week
This is often a mantra that is repeated over and over again by online marketing ‘experts’ who are trying to convince you to sign up with them. Whilst it would be nice to see results in only a week, you must keep in mind that marketing is a long and tedious process, one that you cannot expect to begin working overnight. If you are being pressured to sign up by a person who says that they can achieve these sorts of results, ask them how they plan on doing this. It’s likely that they actually can’t do this or they are being unethical about it.
Myth #2: Follow what the top marketers use
There is another myth out there that suggest everyone starting to use online marketing, from the little home business to the established company, should be using the same techniques that the top marketers use. There is a definite ‘herd mentality’ surrounding marketing these days – everyone follows the latest fads and does everything that the top marketers say. Your strategy, however, should be tailored to your business, as what works for you may be completely unsuitable for someone else.
Myth #3: Be one step ahead by using new services
This myth is actually similar to the one outlined above, except that it involves people jumping on the bandwagon of an emerging online marketing trend. The mistake here lies with the fact that in doing this, many people often begin to neglect marketing basics. Whilst there is nothing wrong with staying informed of the latest fads and strategies, there is something to be said for letting the fad run a little before you consider using it yourself. This will give you plenty of time to see whether the strategy actually works or not.
The next time you are looking into online marketing and come across one of the above myths, you should know straightaway to take the statement at face value and to make your own ascertains. Even if you come across a statement that is not listed above but seems a little too good to be true, you should immediately spot the comment as being marketing copy and disregard its worth.
