Understanding men is an unending quest for us women. It seems as if, no matter how we try, the world is still divided with, “us” on one side and, “them” on the other. The needing and wanting to dissect the opposite sex becomes a mission for life. We squeeze our brains out with all these dilemmas about understanding men, and when we cannot get the answers we want, we instantly take it out on ourselves. But the fact is, it has something to do with their chemistry. Yes, hormones play a vital role on how men react to love and relationships. Scientists constantly state that being in love is all about the cocktail of hormones acting up together. From the first kiss, to the level of his commitment, to the passion-filled stage of the relationship, to the waning of his libido- his hormones has the say.
As a matter-of –fact, understanding men and women is all about going back to the basics- the biology and the physiology of it all. This all about, literally, knowing what we and the opposite sex are made of. So here are the culprits of why men are the way they are.
* The ever famous or infamous testosterone or tagged as the libido hormone. This is very important when it comes to understanding men. Testosterone, as we all know, is the male hormone. This chemical governs the lust factor in the relationship. This explains why most women see guys as, “dogs” who only thinks with their “heads” between their legs. And another interesting fact about the testosterone is that, men with elevated levels of testosterone might have a hard time committing. Shocking! But it makes sense. Experts revealed that testosterone suppresses the two other hormones, oxytocin and vasopressin, which encourage bonding. Signs that a man is high on testosterone are strong brows, defined cheekbone, thin lips, well-defined jaw line, broad shoulders, muscular body, large penis, and his ring finger is longer than his index finger. But on the other hand, lower levels of testosterone can result to loss of sexual appetite, low endurance, mood swings and even depression.
* Estrogen. This is commonly called as the female hormone, although guys has a bit of this in their system, this chemical brings out the femininity in a woman. A high level of this chemical makes a woman look good and feel good. This hormone is important to women, since it regulates a woman’s menstrual cycle and keep the pleasure level in the relationship high. Not only that, this particular chemical triggers desire, arousal and stimulates performance that can lead to orgasm. In days when the estrogen levels are high, you might find yourself open to relationships, from casual dating to a serious relationship. But when this hormone dominates a male person, it can dampen his sexual yearnings and can give him erectile dysfunction and even large breasts!
* Oxytocin, or the “the hormone of love.” This chemical is produced in both the male and female brain. As a whole, this hormone intensifies intimacy and deepens the relationship. An important fact to remember, women produces oxytocin through touching such as holding hands, cuddling, and caressing. While men have a rush of oxytocin through orgasm. This explains why women want the “romance” in the relationship to feel loved, while men need more sex. Now, this is a big factor in understanding men.
