Does your teenager’s room still have fluffy pink bunny wallpaper on the walls or plastic fire trucks hanging from the ceiling? If so, it’s probably time to redecorate. You can even do it on a budget.
Today’s teenagers are far more advanced than ever before. With all the gadgets and gizmos they use, decorating their rooms can end up looking more like an adult space. But a teenager’s room should have a fun flair to it. Involving your teenager with decorating choices will get you major cool points. Let them come up with a decorating theme that will help to express who they are (and not what you want). Let them choose colors, textures, and lighting with a little guidance from you. Remember that most teenagers are quite expressive when it comes to color, and some may even be really passionate about their favorites.

One way to keep your teenager’s room on a budget is painting one wall instead of all four. Why not go for using a bolder color on the wall behind their bed, and in this way you have a great focal point. It saves you from having to paint the entire room. Also, it means that you can include a color in the room that they really like and want, and at the same time it will not overpower the room completely.

Another way to redecorate your teen’s room when on a tight budget is to add murals to a wall of their favorite cityscape. All you have to do is get a picture blown up to size and paste it on the wall with wallpaper adhesive. The picture can be of their favorite singer, band, or musical instrument. Options are endless.

If you have a teenage daughter who is really into make up, why not get hold of a small table, add a mirror and turn into a cool make up vanity. You can paint it to match her bedroom décor.

What about bed linens and curtains? You could get some colorful bed linens to bring all the elements of his/her theme together. You could even purchase extra sheets to make into curtains and lampshades that will match the rest of the décor. And speaking of curtains, why not do non-traditional curtains and put feathers around the window, or put up a faux zebra skin valence. I’m sure your teenager will come up with some really creative ideas.
Now when it comes to decorating the floor in your teenager’s room, there are other options beside carpet. Wood floors are ideal because you can put some throw rugs down and you’re done. But this can be very costly. Some good substitutes can include laminate flooring, cork flooring, and carpet tiles. Carpet tiles are a great solution if your teenager must have carpet underfoot. It allows you to replace just the tiles that have been soiled by food, beverages, markers, etc.

Let’s talk about seating in your teenager’s room. A really inexpensive way to seat lots of friends is to use large floor cushions. These are easy to make on your own. They can even be put under the bed or in a closet when not in use. Another seating idea is ottomans. You can put three or four small ottomans in a corner and pull them out when needed.
Have we talked about beds? Well one way to update a bed is to just replace the headboard. You can make a padded headboard with plywood, batting, and fabric. You can even use old doors or just some art work on the wall for a headboard. Your teenager may not want a headboard, but instead a mural behind the bed. In this case, you may need some taller pillows to pull off this look.

If painting, putting up curtains, making floor cushions or laying laminate on the floor is still a budget buster for you, many successful room makeovers can quickly and easily be accomplished just by changing the layout of the room. Also, by introducing new accessories or lighting to the room, it can help to change the look of the room even more.
As you can see, there are many ways in which a teenager’s bedroom can be redecorated without spending a fortune. Let your teenager help you with the labor and that’s even less cost!
