Soon after they became affordable to the average owner, watch wearers demanded timepieces that could be worn outdoors. Water-resistant watches have been around for hundreds of years, and went mainstream in the 20th century. During the war years, timepieces went from upper-class to demotic devices. They also went from the pocket to the wrist. Because they were needed to coordinate military maneuvers, watches were designed for the outdoors. Horologists developed models that where virtually immune to the elements. These watches could survive the mud and the muck of the Western Front or even the depths of the sea.

The first diving watches were introduced in the 1930s. They were designed for explorers, adventurers, and Indiana Jones types. But a funny thing happened on the way to the lost
ark...average guys started buying them! Diving watches caught on with regular men. Even if they didn’t want to conquer Kilimanjaro or explore the deep blue sea, most guys wanted waterproof timepieces.

What are they?

A waterproof watch is an accessory that can withstand pressure without any water intake. Decades after they were introduced, the International Organization for Standardization came up with the criterion that is presently used to test and evaluate all diving watches. Most modern sports watches owe their design to these early timepieces.
As you might expect, all diving watches are classified by their water resistance level, which is measured in either meters or feet. Most modern diving watches can be safely submerged to 200 meters (or 660 feet). Timepieces that have a lower water resistance are only suitable for swimming, bathing, and water sports. They should not be taken to a greater depth, also known as saturation diving.

What’s the difference?

A diving watch is different from a dress watch. As we mentioned, water pressure increases the deeper you go. A watch case must be made of a durable material, like stainless steel or titanium in order to keep it dry at deeper depths. Less stout materials will not only cave under the pressure; they may also be damaged by the corrosiveness of seawater.

Deep Blue Watches

Like many modern companies, Deep Blue Watches started out on the internet. They saved beaucoup bucks moving their wares on sites like eBay and Amazon.com. But after a spell, demand increased and they were forced to branch out. The company now offers a wide range of temporal accessories on their website. Let us take a moment to review three of their most popular models.

Apchrono All Purpose Diver Chronograph Watch

As the name suggests, the Apchrono is a versatile timepiece that was made for the average man. Its stainless steel case protects it in up to 200 meters (660 feet) of water. The dial window is made of scratch-resistant mineral crystal and the dial color is black and gray. As a chronograph timepiece, the model features three subdials that measure time in hours, minutes, and seconds. These stopwatch functions come in handy for runners, swimmers, and weekend warriors. The watch is powered by accurate and reliable analog quartz movement. The watchband is made of black rubber and closes with a buckle clasp. There is even a handsome date window beside the three o’clock hour marker.

Swiss ETA Divers Automatic Movement Watch

Quartz watches are powered by batteries, while automatic ones are mechanical, or self-winding. These timepieces store energy when the wearer moves his arm, which makes it unnecessary to actually wind them up. The benefit of this movement is that it tends to last a lot longer than electronics. Timepieces that are passed from generation to generation are typically mechanical models.

The Swiss ETA Divers Automatic Movement Watch is one of the company’s most durable models. It has a stainless steel case and an antireflective sapphire dial crystal that protects the timepiece to a depth of 1,640 feet! The watchband is made of silver stainless steel and closes with a fold-over clasp with safety. The dial color is black and the case is round. There is even an attractive date window display next to the three o’clock hour index.

Deep 6 Blue Bezel Dive Watch

A silver stainless steel case and a mineral crystal cover keep this timepiece safe in up to 660 feet of water. Powered by Japanese Quartz movement, this watch never misses a beat, or a tick.

The watch even has a metallic band that closes with a fold-over clasp with safety, which makes it suitable for the office and for the outdoors. The dial color is white and the watch hands are luminous for easy reading in low-light conditions.

Deep Blue Watches are sold be authorized vendors on the internet.
