Many people would be thrown off guard by being asked to define leadership. A leader is someone who is in charge of a group of people, whether small or big. It is important to know that not everyone is born with the qualities of a leader, but one can train to be one. There are various attributes that make one a leader and that will give one the definition of leadership. Some people are born with these attributes but some can be acquired. Leadership can be defined as having qualities that make one stand out in a group as one who is able to inspire and motivate others to achieve some set goals. A good leader is able to articulate the vision of a group in a way that will inspire and motivate every member of the group to work willingly towards the set objectives. A good leader is a thoughtful, decisive and a good listener. They know their strengths and weaknesses, have excellent communication skills, are result oriented and collaborates well with others. The good leader should be focused, able to think short-term as well as long-term. A good administrator makes an excellent leader as they are able to plan roles & responsibilities, provide clear goals with time frames as well as milestones and possibilities.rnLeadership entails knowing how to bring out the best out of individual members of the team by working on their values, strengths and attributes. A good leader is able to set a good example to be emulated by having good behavior and having a set of values and a display of convictions that the team is able to identify with. The good leader is confident, and is able to guide the team to achieve the vision and mission of the group. A good leader knows how to motivate the team by having a way of rewarding good results as well as reprimanding in a way that will bring a positive change. The team working under a good leader is well focused and able to adapt to and implement any changes coming in. They are innovative people as the leadership provides room for positive contribution from the team members as appreciation and acknowledgment is the norm. The leader welcomes and makes a great deal out of any feedback whether positive or otherwise form the team. Under a good leader, the team will feel proud to belong and will have a positive attitude towards any given tasks since they have a conducive atmosphere. A good leader is willing to improve his/her act and one way they can achieve that is through training. A person who feels that they do not have leadership skills can acquire them through training. They will be taught how to be effective leaders. The courses cover all aspects of communication, skills for running the affairs of the group or organization as well as conflict resolution. Leadership is a skill that is very important in any group as it provides guidance to follow through the mission. In order to be a great leader one has to define leadership.
