The difficulty in addressing the issue of premature ejaculation is not only because it creates a stigma in the minds of people who are experiencing it. It is also because the very definition of premature ejaculation has not been consistent so far.

Surprisingly, surveys show that about 25%-30% of the male adult population have at one point or another experienced rapid ejaculation in their sexual encounters. It is considered the most prevalent sexual dysfunction and people are becoming more aware of it now than before.

Some doctors and sex therapists have defined it in terms of the amount of time that a man takes before ejaculation, or the level of sexual satisfaction achieved by both sexual partners. However, this is quite vague for most men, especially young men who are experiencing sexual intercourse for the first time and may easily ejaculate because of the new sensations he is experiencing. It is also difficult to define PE in terms of the number of thrusts that a man takes to achieve orgasm, because this will of course vary from one person to another.

It is also quite vague to say that premature ejaculation takes place when a man releases sperm prior to his partner achieving orgasm. What is prior to his ejaculation, he has already helped his partner achieve orgasm through oral sex? Does it mean that his ejaculation has also been premature?

Most therapists will tell you that premature ejaculation becomes a conce
if it happens frequently, say to about 50% of your sexual encounters. It also becomes a problem if it is affecting other areas of your life and causing stress in your relationship.

If you want to know whether you are experiencing premature ejaculation, pay attention to your partner's feelings and let her help you understand your condition. Sometimes women are only waiting to be asked and they are often not quick to judge their men's sexual performance.

Even the thought alone that you may be experiencing rapid ejaculation can create stress and anxiety which in turn may aggravate your problem. For a more professional evaluation, seek the advice of a professional sex therapist or your medical doctor for your condition. If you find it unpleasant to talk to someone about your condition, try to understand it better by reading more about its causes and treatments.

Remember, premature ejaculation is not a hopeless condition. Treatments are available for it such as therapy and medications. All it takes is the desire to understand the condition better and to find the right solution for it.
