Ladakh is aptly known as an unexplored wonderland of Himalaya with its outstanding beauty. Enveloped by the two fascinating mountain ranges, the Himalayas and the Karakoram, Ladakh has impressive geographical features. Dotted with colourful monasteries, Ladakh is a must visit place in India.

Popular tourist destinations of Ladakh include:

Leh

Located on the banks of Indus river, Leh is a beautiful town. The beauty of Leh lies in its mountains. The place also serves as a trekking destination for adventure lovers. Rumbak and Markha are the best trekking spots. Monuments like Thiksey, Likir, Spituk, Phyang, Raisi Fort and Leh Royal Palace are the popular attractions of the town.

Nubra Valley

Known as Ldumra (the valley of flowers), Nubra Valley lies in the North of Leh. The average elevation of the valley is around 10,000 ft. above the sea level. The Bactrian Camels around sand dunes are the main attractions of the place. Deskit and Samstanling monasteries are the other places to visit.

Zanskar

For those who wish to regain their energies in a tranquil ambiance, Zanskar is the best option. This rugged Buddhist valley attracts many tourists to enjoy the isolation. Endowed with sheer natural splendour, it offers the mesmerizing views of valley and mountains. The place enjoys heavy snowfall that adds charm to its beauty. Penzila Pass, Zanskar River and Karsha are the must visit attractions of the place. Several Buddhist monasteries lie here. It is also a good place for trekking.

Drass Valley

The enchanting Drass valley lies at an elevation of 3230 m. The place experiences nail-biting cold in winters. This cold valley starts from Zojila pass, which is the Himalayan Gateway to Ladakh. The valley houses a small town-the Drass Town in a flat and open space. To spot greenery along the river during summer is a unique experience altogether. A major part of the valley is inhabited by the Brokpa Tribe. They are involved in growing cereals like Barley and others.

Tso Moriri Lake

Popularly known as the 'Mountain Lake', Tso Moriri lies in the Rupshu valley. Enveloped with barren hills with the backdrop of snow-capped mountains, the lake looks simply beautiful. It is a fine sheet of salty water. Tso Moriri lake has no outlet and the water is crystal clear.

Lamayuru

Steeped in natural beauty, Lamayru is a small village. It boasts of its arresting gompas. Enveloped by huge mountains, the village is home to the ancient Kagyupa monastery, which is the largest monastery in Ladakh.

Alchi

Located in a beautiful isolation, the Alchi Gompa dates back to 1000 AD. Built by Rinchen Zangpo, a great translator, the monastery still reflects its traditional Indian touch. The main image inside the monastery is of Vairochana. Tourists can also view the images of the five Buddha families and other attendant deities. The paintings inside the monastery are the rarest examples of Buddhist art in Kashmir.

Zangla, Pangong Lake, Sarchu, Keylong, Khardung Pass and Suru Valley are the other popular destinations that you can visit.
