The health of our teeth has an important role in our ability to eat and speak. Fortunately, the field of dentistry has reached far ahead from the tree branch toothbrushes used by ancient Egyptians to clean their teeth. Several modern technologies and advanced methods for dental care have succeeded at making a visit to the dentist as painless and efficient as possible. Modern dental technologies such as digital x-rays, dental lasers and sedation dentistry can change the experience of going to the dentist by offering relaxing sedatives to ease tensions and pain. Air Abrasion: Air abrasion is an alternative to traditional dental drill that is used to treat small cavities. Without making the dreaded whizzing noises, it removes hardened plaque in the cavities and cleans hard-to reach places like the surface area between teeth. Bone replacement: rnPeople, who suffer from bone loss or those require tooth extraction, can opt bone replacement treatment. In this technique, bone is taken from another part of the body and it can induce bone tissue to grow with its platelet-rich growth factors. This technique helps heal teeth with low bone density. Mouth cancer patients who need to replace their mouth benefit from bone replacement. Digital X-Rays: Digital x-ray, a piece of dental technology, is a combination of dentistry and technology. It captures dental images through sensors and transmits the data to a computer screen for analysis. Compared to conventional x-ray methods, digital x-ray greatly reduces patient’s radiation exposure and therefore it is easier and safer to use on the patients. Dental Lasers: Dental lasers use concentrated light energy to operate on a variety of conditions such as cold sores, tumors, decay removal and dental filings. It offers a virtually suture-free operation by reducing discomfort during surgery. Another benefit of using dental lasers is nearly painless healing. Composite Dental Materials: Composite dental materials are widely available with the advancements of materials engineering. It is used to fill cavities as well as to rebuild and restore teeth in natural ways. Another goal of using composite dental materials is that it closes cavities to further decay and produces natural-looking results. Sedation dentistry: Sedation dentistry, as it offers dental treatment without anxiety, pain or discomfort, is the ultimate dental technology. In this method, anesthesia is used to numb the central nervous system and this produces a relaxed sensation to make the patient feel sleepy and to reduce the complexity of major dental works. The modern dental technology includes several advanced treatment options that have improved dental hygiene and made visits to the dentist less frightening.
