One of the biggest questions in dentistry is whether it is better to get dental implants or dentures. Both of these dental devices can help you to lead a normal and fulfilling life, but they each have their pros and cons. Here we will discuss some of the benefits of both so that you can make a better decision on your next dental procedure.

First of all, most people don't like to wear their dentures. It is not really a secret that dentures can slip around easily in the mouth and if they do not fit just right they can actually cause sores and other irritations on the gums. On the other hand, they are simple to use, you merely pop them in and away you go. In order to properly take care of your dentures, you need to make sure that you clean them thoroughly every night. If not, they can start to deteriorate and they can also be the cause of bad breath. Implants on the other hand, are nice because they are permanent and they don't have to be put in and removed every day. You can treat them like regular teeth and not have to worry about them falling out. One main con of getting implants is it can be a painful procedure and take quite a while to get done.

One of the main issues to consider when choosing between these two things is the price. One of the most attractive things about dentures is how affordable they are. You can get an entire arch for anywhere between $500 to $1500. Implants, however, are going to cost between $1,000 and $3,000 per tooth. If you are having to completely replace all of your teeth you are looking at a bill that could be close to $50,000.

The next thing to consider is how long each of these things last. Implants are more expensive but they last much longer than dentures do. Your implants could be around for almost 25 years while dentures will need to be replaced in about 10. You can help your dentures to last a bit longer if you do the required cleaning on them, but even this can be a pain because you have to clean them as well as buy adhesive to help them grip inside your mouth for the time that you are wearing them. Implants will need to be cared for the same as any other teeth but you won't have to use any glues or extra cleaning supplies.

Overall, implants are easier to care for but are much more expensive. Depending on your budget and the level of convenience you want, you are the ultimate judge on which option to get.
