Depression and the Holidays

If you are still one of those few people who insist on watching the news, you will be undoubtedly bombarded with "It's the holidays. Time to be depressed. You need to take this medication." messages.
Nothing could be further from the truth. The fact is, more people are happy during this time than any other time. You see wonderful examples of kindness, giving and caring toward people. Examples are in fact, countless.
Nevertheless, there are some people who unfortunately do experience depression during this time. (They also experience it during other times too, but that does not get mentioned as often.)
From a physical perspective, depression is caused by congestion of the liver. It will result in either anger, frustration or as mentioned, depression. Anger is the outward expression of this energy. Frustration is the lack of expression and depression is the inward express. The energy is the same. Only the direction is different.
Now for the good news. This need not be. If you are willing to commit to action, you can be assured that your mood will change.
For starters, do something for someone else. Not just your husband or wife or kids. Someone you may not know. Someone who may never be able to repay you. Someone who needs it. This action along begins to shift and move the aforementioned energy. It also allows you to feel good about YOU.
Secondly, get out of your routine. It probably is not a routine, but rather a rut. (If you are debating this, arguing with me or ignoring it. . . .it is definitely a rut). Get up earlier or later. Go for a run or plant a tree. It matters not what you do, other than to make sure it is something different. Something that lights a genuine spark within.
Next on the list, go to the health store and get 2 items. A small bottle of Bupleurum and a large bottle of St. John's Wort. Take the Bupleurum for 7-10 days. Let me alert you: It may be very, very emotional. Bupleurum is an herb that strengthens the liver, decongests it, but its most powerful effect is on the emotions. It is very cathartic and strong.
Take a couple of days off after you have the release and then start on St. John's Wort. It is soothing, gentle and kind of reminds me of a warm cup of tea on a cold night. Calming, yet strengthening at the same time.
Some one will say, "I already know this." Or "I will just skip to the herbs."
They will continue the path of depression.
Some else will follow all of these steps.
They will end up having the best of the best of holidays.
Pick one.
