A common misconception around Hedge Fund managers is that Hedge fund public relations are irrelevant and unnecessary. They in fact, are wrong. Hedge fund public relations are especially important because hedge funds are not allowed to advertise or market their firms until a potential investor makes the initial contact. Therefore Hedge fund public relations is the most efficient way to create a favorable reputation about a Hedge Fund firm and get the name out about its mere existence.
In the past, Hedge fund managers have been quiet when it comes to the media and generally do not make much of an effort to network with journalists in order to solicit investors. There is a general belief among Hedge fund managers that they must be secretive about their strategies. Such an intuition prevents Hedge fund managers from speaking with the journalists at all, most likely under the fear that their tactics may be disclosed to the public. In actuality, this dismissive practice not only disregards the potential for positive press, but may in fact have negative effects as the media enforces a pessimistic opinion among the public. Hedge funds do not necessarily generate the most positive reputation so a contributing negative opinion may lead politicians to regulate financial policies, ultimately convincing investors to resist investment.
A Hedge fund public relations agency can be the middleman between the Hedge Fund managers and the journalists and initiate the public outreach and build a positive reputation that all Hedge fund firms need but don’t realize. At first it may be difficult to convince a Hedge fund manager of the importance of the Hedge Fund public relations agency but there are certain ways to convince him or her otherwise. If the interests of the Hedge Fund public relations agency can be correlated with that of the Hedge Fund manager, the latter can be certain that any public interaction will be beneficial to Investors, Hedge Funds, Hedge Fund public relations and the like.
The Hedge fund public relations may consult the manager to write a book or speak at conferences or various other public relations tactics. The Hedge fund manager simply needs to trust that the Hedge fund public relation officials are professionals like themselves and will strengthen the Hedge fund’s reputation.
