Prince Edward Island is the smallest of the Canadian provinces both in size and population. The capital is Charlottetown. Crafts, theatres, and festivals can be found throughout the Island. Visitors come to the Island to enjoy the relaxing pace, lobster suppers, white sandy beaches, or play golf on the many courses available.
If you start your visit in Charlottetown take a guided walking tour with "The Fathers and Ladies of Confederation” dressed in period costume. Canada was started in Charlottetown when the Fathers of Confederation met at Province House in 1864 to plan the creation of Canada.
Check out Canadian history at Founders' Hall on the National Historic Street called Great George. Steps from Province House is Victoria Row which is closed to traffic in the summer so visitors can enjoy the red brick buildings housing an assortment of shops and restaurants and enjoy a drink or meal on an outdoor patio with local musicians.
The Anne of Green Gables Musical at The Confederation Centre of the Arts has been entertaining visitors for over 45 years. At the end of the day the town turns into a musical stage with Celtic bands and local singers entertaining at the local pubs and lounges.
Many readers from around the world know and love Anne of Green Gables written by Lucy Maud Montgomery. There are many sites that celebrate Anne and people come from all over to visit the Anne of Green Gables house and the house at the Lake of Shining Waters where Lucy spent much of her time. At the Cavendish Figurines you can dress up as Anne and have a tour of the factory where they make the Anne Figurines.
Cavendish has much to offer in the way of family fun with amusement parks, mini golf, water slides and restaurants for all tastes and ages.
For adventure seekers North Rustico offers kayaking, canoeing and deep-sea fishing.
Make sure to check out one of the lobster dinners, there are several on the Island offering Lobster and huge buffets.
On the Red Sand Shore the red sand beaches, the red cliffs and the red soil are a sight to behold. Prince Edward Island is famous for its red soil and its Potatoes.
Although the Island is small, it has much to offer the tourist and can easily be combined with New Brunswick and or Nova Scotia. The 3 Provinces are so different there is bound to be something for everyone.
