It’s the tiny details that make the difference when making a purchase. However old the expression, it definitely applies with regards teak garden tables.
Many people assume wooden garden tables made from teak are all the same in terms of quality, but in practice they are not. The quality of the wood is a key factor but when comparing wood for wood, you have to go deeper into its construction and look beyond size and style and study the teak dining tables’ overall finish. Only then can you get a clear indication as to their quality.
When purchasing teak garden tables, look at the following small aspects to determine true detail.
Table leg thickness: This is a known way of reducing cost, and making the legs a single centimetre thinner makes a considerable difference to their stability. Plus, spindly legs on a large table can look odd from an aesthetics point of view.
Table top thickness: Many purchasers assume that top thickness is standard across suppliers, but this is definitely not so. Many manufacturers drive costs down by keeping their table tops as thin as possible. For quality, look for teak dining tables with tops of nothing less than 40mm thick. Again not only do they look superb; they ensure they table is rigid and stable.
Chamfored legs: A good quality table should have its legs chamfoured to prevent splitting in the event of the table being dragged across the ground.
Brass fittings: If your chosen table has any metalwork in it, make sure that only the best brass is used to prevent it corroding when out in all weathers.
So, next time you are looking to buy a table, first look at the style you want and the wood quality; insisting it is made from grade A heartwood, and then look at the small details to be sure you make a quality purchase.
