Emotional well-being is the ability to manage your emotions in any situation. If you think about it the way you project yourself to the world around you has a large part in determining your overall happiness. Around 25% of what makes people contented in their life comes from being able to be flexible in different situations. Resilient people are able to spring back from most negative experiences and still stay positive in their thinking. The thing is this is easier for some people, as some characteristics are inborn, but it is possible to develop a more resilient personality that will help you to overcome life's hard ships thus making you a more emotionally balanced person.

Positive thinking can assist you in developing emotional well-being. All humans handle their emotions in a variety of ways: Like some people like to bottle things up inside, others rather blow up at the least irritation. How do you think you manage your emotions? Do you bottle things up, or do you just blow up at the slightest aggravation? If you are at either end of the two limits then you are letting yourself be controlled by your emotions, and not the other way round. To be controlled by certain feelings can have a negative effect on your surroundings.
For instance people who are extremely angry all the time are wanting in viewpoint. Instead of seeing a slight problem as a nuisance, they start to turn red and shout and bully other people. Behaving like this is un constructive and makes everyone else's life a misery. A person that acts in a destructive manner can't make precise observations about their emotions. This kind of person is nearly always irresponsible and rude when coming in contact with other people.

Thank god that not all emotional problems are nearly as severe as anger problems. The thing is by developing emotional well-being you are able then to manage any circumstances with a suitable reaction. That is why it's so important to know why you feel a certain way in a certain situation. Lets take for instance a person that is angry at someone. Could this person be angry because he is upset about something? Or is he angry because he is jealous of that person? The more thorough you can be in identifying an emotion, or a problem the more accurate your response to it will be.

Sometimes it can be hard to actually identify an emotion. To help you to identify an emotion, write down as many positive emotions that you think you have experienced. Now next to each emotion, write down what situation you were in when you experienced it. Remember to write what kind of physical sensation it gave you at the time. Once you've done that do the same again with all the negative emotions you have experienced, do this on a separate sheet of paper. Also write down in what situation you were in when you experienced each emotion, and all the physical sensations such as muscle rigidity, anxiousness, nausea, etc.

Now bring back to mind a positive memory that produced in you a positive sensation, to do this be in the moment (like you are actually there). Be aware of how the same physical feeling returns, and how rapidly you can begin to produce actual physical changes in the body. The ability of thought is amazing. This exercise shows how simple it is to generate physical changes just by using the power of the mind. It also shows how easily we can change our mental state at will. Being able to control the emotions will enable you to express them in a more meaningful way, which is the secret of emotional well-being.

Good luck!
