The Diary of a Coachr
Tuesday the 8th June, 2011
After the disappointment of having 'the big" training day cancelled next week with the "big and very important" client, the coach takes herself off to the hairdressers. Something that was planned just in time for the big training day anyway, but is now a consolation prize.
Super, big important client promises to reschedule for September. Fingers are crossed.
In the meantime, coach met several potential new clients yesterday for chats. Chats means that coach gets grilled to within an inch of her life about her life and her work. This is exactly how it should be, but reader, please imagine having five hour-long interviews back to back in one day!
There was space for a sneaky wee smoked salmon sandwich and a hot chocolate. The latter was a naughty treat, but well earned.
This coach went home last night with a massive headache and slightly dazed expression on her face. Never mind, her three children and their insistent demands really helped ease the headache. Oh, and then she cooked dinner.
Being there for her clients is the most important thing for her business, but being there for her family comes first. Getting the priorities right at the beginning has been the key to her success. Understanding her own values and writing them down has really helped this coach to make decisions and accept or decline work.
Sometimes, the family grumble, especially if it's an evening networking session, but that's mainly because dad isn't very good at cooking dinner, not because they miss mum!
Because this coach is self-employed, when smallest child had gone to bed, she sat for an hour at her computer sending stuff out to potential new clients and raising invoices - hurrah!
Consequently, she fell asleep watching Dan Cruickshank wobble on about a stately home in Northern Ireland, something she had convinced herself was interesting? Really? In hindsight, she would have been better off with Channel Four's programme where a scary lady shouts at people to make them get a job.
Today, she is developing leaders, one before the hairdo and one after. This is the massive upside of self employment - managing your own time. Working in the evening is very easily balanced by the trips to the beauticians, power plates and quarterly hairdo.
The rest of June brings training days with small and large organisations, expectations of inspiring their people to sell more, be more and achieve more. Luckily, this coach/trainer has one of those magic wands that are so in demand these days.
This is just as well because she also has an assignment to complete for her Masters Degree in Coaching, her own wedding to organise, three demanding children, a dog and a partner/future husband to find lost items of clothing for: "it's where you left it darling!" is an all too familiar phrase in our house.
It's just a case of remembering where she put the magic wand.........
