The pioneers of water filtering were the Egyptians which dated back more than 1,500 years ago. According to history, the Egyptians had different methods of water treatment such as boiling it over a fire, heating in under the sun, or dipping a heated piece of iron into it. Some Egyptians also chose to filter their boiled water through some sand and gravel. They would then cool the filtered water before drinking it. In 1804, John Gibb built the first water drinking supply that supplied the city in Paisley, Scotland. A few years later, the filtered water sent to Glasgow. In Paris, during the year 1806, a large water treatment plant operated. First the water was settled for 12 hours before it was filtered. Sands and charcoal were used in water filtration. Every six hours, the sands and charcoals were replaced. Then in 1827, James Simpson, created a sand filter for water treatment. This historical background of water filter proves that water has been vital to every human being in every generation. Why do people filter water? Water is a good solvent, thus, it absorbs various pollutants. If the water has some harmful pollutants in it, humans should not take it. Water treatment, which is the process of cleaning water, is therefore, important. Through water treatment, water will become safer for people to drink. In 1902, Belgium was the first country to apply chlorine on water to clean it for public water supply. The use of chlorine and other chemicals in water disinfection is being done by almost every city in the world. However, the application of these chemicals to clean water is making the taste and odor of water unpleasant. Some public water treatment system are not sufficient for purifying water. Sometimes pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and chemicals flow into the drinking water. Thus, residential water filters are getting popular. Water filtration is one of the most common ways to produce clean and safe water. Nowadays, the process called reverse osmosis is being utilized in water filtration. Modern equipment such as residential water filters produced by Eagle Industries Corp is now used in homes. What is reverse osmosis water filtration? The first successful use of reverse osmosis (RO) filtering water was done by two researchers at UCLA, Sidney Loeb and Srinivasa Sourirajan in 1959. In their test, a body of high solute water was pressure forced through the synthetic RO membrane (from cellulose acetate polymer) which allowed only water molecules to pass through, rejecting salt and other molecules. This water filtration using RO showed that fresh water can be turned into clean drinking water, Later in 1965, the world’s first commercial RO plant was built in California. Eagle Industries Corp in Ontario sells reverse osmosis water filters. They also offer installation and maintenance services. They believe that RO residential water filters are effective in purifying water. It’s easy to install and easy to use. It removes different types of contaminants. Water pollutants are flushed to the drain when pure water passes through the pores of the RO membrane. The design of the residential water filter that can be purchased in Eagle Industries Corp is well-designed which makes it convenient to use.
