Although it seems that everyone is talking about information and technology today, there is a general amnesia that this was brought about by some visionaries in the past. These were the people in the business sector, entrepreneurs, and innovators. Business knowledge, then, continues to make its mark in the society. Premier institutions and universities offer business management courses to candidates. But, these courses are of different types; the most common being the MBA and PGDM. Are they different or are they the same? Master of Business Administration (MBA) A holder of an MBA degree holds a master’s degree in business administration offered either by universities (government/private) itself or by colleges affiliated to these renowned universities. The courses studied within an MBA include finance, accounting, human resources, operations, and marketing, international business, etc. More recently, new courses have been added according to the demands of the industry. The MBA program is offered in multiple formats. Of these the following are popular:rn1. Two-year full-time MBArn2. Part-time MBArn3. Executive MBArn4. Accelerated MBArn5. Distance Learningrn6. MBA dual degree Postgraduate Diploma in Management (PGDM) Unlike an MBA degree, the PGDM is a diploma offered by private B-schools/Colleges such as the PGDM colleges in Delhi NCR that is recognised by the government body - All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). The diploma is offered by autonomous institutes that offer management programs and is not affiliated with any University. The top placement PGDM colleges in Delhi NCR, for instance, prepare their own curriculum and enjoy full autonomy of the conduct of the courses. In all other ways, a PGDM is equivalent to an MBA. rnUnlike the MBA, PGDM colleges have the latest curriculum and are more likely to update the courses according to the industry. This means that the PGDM is more of a industry based curriculum and students studying from PGDM colleges are receiving the latest knowledge and training. rnThe best placement PGDM colleges offer their diplomas in many courses of which below are some of the common one:rn1. PGDM Financial Managementrn2. PGDM Marketing Managementrn3. PGDM HR Managementrn4. PGDM Operations Management Comparison Both the MBA degree and the PGDM degree require a three-year bachelor’s degree with at least 50% marks as the minimum eligibility criterion. A candidate wanting to pursue an MBA can apply to the state and central government organized entrance exams. They can also apply to the international entrance exams such as the GMAT. On the other hand, for the PGDM courses, institutions conduct their own entrance exams such as the CAT, XAT, and SNAP. rnThe issuing authority of the degree is the University with which the institute is affiliated with for an MBA. On the contrary, the degrees offered by the PGDM colleges in Delhi NCR are issued by the autonomous institutions. rnHowever, the focus in both courses is relatively similar. The MBA program focuses on building the theoretical knowledge of the candidates in management. On the other hand, in the PGDM, the focus is also rendered on the analytical, management, and communication skills, i.e. the skills required by a professional in the industry. rnIf you plan to pursue a PGDM, consider the top placement PGDM colleges in Delhi NCR.
