A back brace is used to support the treatment and cure of numerous spinal problems and as a result, there are several different types of back braces available in the market. There are two different types of back braces that are used for the treatment of scoliosis which is a curvature in the spine. There are other types available also that are used in the support of the lower back, the pelvis as well as other areas especially after back injury or surgery. There are many cases of scoliosis that don’t require any form of treatment but some kids who have this condition will have to wear a Medicare back brace in order to prevent their scoliosis from becoming worse; this is especially true if they are still growing. One of the back braces that is used in the treatment of scoliosis is the thoracolumbar-sacral orthosis brace (TLSO) also known as the underarm back brace; there is also what is known as the Milwaukee brace. The TLSO brace isn’t as noticeable as the Milwaukee brace. rnThe Milwaukee brace, which is also known as the full torso brace, is basically worn almost round the clock; most people will find it a little cumbersome especially when you think that it will encase the entire torso. On the other hand, when you wear the TLSO brace, it is worn against the skin and one can feel quite hot in addition to the fact that it can also reduce your lung’s capacity. There are yet other types of Medicare back braces that are worn during sleep such as the Charleston bending brace; this is a custom brace that is molded to an individual’s body while they are bent in the opposite direction of the curve in the spine. This one has a smaller impact on a child’s life simply because it is normally worn only at night time. rnFor older people who are suffering from back pain or those who may have undergone back surgery, there are different types of back braces that they can benefit from. A good example is lumbosacral belts that are mainly used for the support of lower back; this belt allows for pressure to be placed on the user’s stomach as opposed to the back. This type of Medicare back brace can be quite useful for anyone who has strained their lower back. For those people who need more support than can be provided by the lumbosacral belt, they may select to wear a corset or rigid back brace. A corset looks like some garments that women wear to hold their waist and it is normally prescribed for a patient who has undergone a spinal fusion; it helps protect the spine from moving too much during the healing process.
