Description This article talks about the origins of blogging. It describes what a blog is and how it can be used to increase an individual’s or business’ exposure on-line. Finally it gives tips on the steps one can take to increase the exposure of their blog on the web and therefore boost their internet business. Keywords blog, blogging, internet marketing, make money on-line. Web logging was born, in the middle of the 1990s, when this concept arrived on the online market. It started out as a method visitors to a website would leave comments about how they felt about the content or subject of a page. Opinions that used to be expressed as a few words, have now become pages of content written about any topic that there is to be talked about. As this trend progresses, businesses have now begun to advertise their goods and services by using this medium. In this article, I give you five reasons for applying this technique to reach out and get customers for your business. 1. Blogging is easy to use The easiest method to provide information about anything on the internet is by using blogs. You do not need particular qualifications or skills. Most people can now read and string together sentences, or use a computer. Blogging is synonymous to having an electronic piece of paper, on which you can express yourself in any way you want. This could be writing on a subject you are passionate about. This could also be for the purpose of showing your products to your potential customers. To blog, you only need a computer and a connection to the web. 2. Blogging is genuine Today, businesses keen to show us what they are selling, can bring one to ask the reasons for the advertisers sales pitch. Are they really trying to enrich our lives, or their pockets? On the other side, in blogs, real individuals talk (or write) about what has actually gone on in their lives, without being influenced by business paying to show us their goods or services. When someone gets information on a blog about the experience of a real person, using a product, then they are much keener to make a purchase of that product. 3. Blogging doesn’t cost anything It has not yet been proven that blogging is a method used for promoting goods and services for sale. Therefore most websites give it away without asking for a single dime. If a chance to get free online exposure is offered, this is certainly a bonus for new businesses. However, it should be pointed out that blogs that are paid for, are also worth considering, as they can also help to bring in an income for your business. 4. Blogging builds trustworthiness As you develop your skills in presenting written material about a particular niche or product, your audience will see the benefit in your blogging service, as it will satisfy their information requirements. In that sense, you the author of the material, becomes a knowledge and reference source in your chosen field. This in turn will cause more people to come to your site. It will also help you to gain links from other people creating similar blogs. As businesses and other professional groups realise that there is a lot of traffic on your site, they will begin to contact you to advertise on your blog, or pay you for any new business that has come from your page. 5. Blogging increases your sales Unless you are someone very important like a top politician or a movie personality, it is most probable that very few people know about you. These will generally be those few people in your close circle of family and friends. The fact of the matter is that you cannot only depend on this small circle of friends to increase the number of people reading your blog. You should consider other methods of increasing your market by using your blog. Below are a few tried and tested methods of achieving just this: a. Through email Blogging is quickly becoming more popular than email in the speed at which it can get to new customers. People now value their time so much so, that it now seems a lot easier and efficient to access a blog than their emails. Links in your emails can now be used to direct people to your blog. A simple email can be used as taster to draw them to your blog site. In case your email’s content is on a different subject, then a link in the signature can be used. b. Subscriptions This is done by offering your readers the chance to register their email address at your site. You can use these emails to provide special information to your subscribers. Make sure that you respect your subscribers’ email addresses as you might be labelled a “spammer” on your blog. c. Knowing your readers Research your readers and get to know who they are and what method of adverts is perfect for them. You can get their opinions on a post or ad-link. This method can get your readers’ comments without having to see them in person or talk to them over the phone. d. Join a blog network This could be a number of sites that have something in common for example they could be in the same niche or interest group. Subscribers to blogs can see the authority and convenience in accessing several blogging sites, by using one click to several blogs on a single area of interest. Indeed it can be said that the more bloggers there are, the more information that the subscriber can get. e. Harness the power RSS According to Wikipedia, RSS (which is Really Simple Syndication) is a group of web feeds used to publish articles whose contents change all the time—such as blogs, news headlines, audio, and video—in a standardized format. An RSS document (also known as a "feed", "web feed", or "channel") includes full or summarized text, plus other information metadata like publishing dates and authorship. RSS is growing at a phenomenal rate on the internet. Therefore harnessing the power RSS feeds on your blog site is one other way of informing your readers. You can also increase interest to your blog by having several RSS feeds, each on a different topic area.
