However, if you're wondering why your ex is reaching out to and is wanting to be friends all of a sudden, I can understand your confusion.

Perhaps your ex believes that you two are better off as friends rather than lovers. You can never have too many friends. If you and your ex can maintain a friendship after a breakup, it's safe to say that the breakup ended on amicable terms rather than filled with heartache or pain.

If you're not over your ex and he is trying to stay friends with you, that's another story.
To be honest, deciphering a guy's intentions is difficult but always assume that he just wants to be friends to be safe. Try to avoid clinging to hope that your ex boyfriend may want to get back with you, if you're not over him yet. Doing this will prevent you from future heartache or disappointments.

What to do if your ex boyfriend wants to be friends, but you're still hurting? It's okay to decline the offer of friendship if you haven't gotten over the break up. If he's already moved on, you're more likely to get hurt seeing him enjoy his life as a single guy.

If you and your ex boyfriend are friends and you're still not completely over him, seeing him date other women will be a tough pill to swallow. If you're still in love with him, politely tell him that you're not ready to start a friendship just yet, but perhaps in the future, it can happen.

If your ex boyfriend wants to be friends but he's giving you mixed signals, tread lightly. This situations happens to a lot of women who are still in love with their ex so they choose to be friends with benefits with their ex boyfriend. Unfortunately, these women have a really hard time getting the commitment they want from their ex. If your ex would rather have a physical relationship with you than actually be in a real relationship with you, I suggest you move on. There is no way you can get your ex boyfriend to want to be with you if you're allowing him to have the benefits of being in a relationship without actually being in one.

You may accept his friendship as long as you make it clear to him that all you can offer is friendship at least for now. If you truly want to be friends with your ex boyfriend, than be friends. Instead of using your friendship as another desperate attempt to keep your ex in your life, focus on what you can do right now to help you feel from the pain of the heartache.

The next time you ask, 'My ex boyfriend wants to be friends, what now?', keep in mind that friendship is good but you need to enter it with good intentions also. While you may not know precisely what your ex's goals are, but by making it clear to him as to what you want, it will make being friends with him a lot easier.
