Many parents out there consider getting a dog but question the safety of their children. Or some parents may already have a dog but is expecting a child along the way and safety is a cause for concern. Are you one of these parents worried about the safety of your child around dogs? Here are a few must know information when it comes to children and dogs.

New Baby:
Do you have a dog and is expecting a new baby and your conce
ed for your child's safety? Keep in mind that you are going to have to take extra precautions before you bring the baby home. To prevent jealous aggression from your dog, here are a few things you can do to make sure your dog takes a liking to the new baby.

Your dog's regime is going to change when the baby comes. Change up your dog's routine ahead of time before your baby comes. This will help your dog get accustomed to the changes of his own routine.

While at home, carry around a wrapped up baby doll and lavish it with attention. See how your dog responds to this. This will help prepare your dog for the new arrival.

Another thing to keep in mind is train your pet canine where he or she can't go. For example, if you don't want your dog upstairs in the baby's area, close off that area to your dog. With time, you can slowly allow your dog freedom as your baby gets older.

Other Things to Keep in Mind: -Don't play wrestling games with your dog to prevent any accidents and unwanted wrestling matches between your child and your dog. -Do some research on what the best dogs breeds are when it comes to children. -Make sure your dog has a special and safe place to go to when he feels threatened.

Train Your Child:
If you already have kids, it's very important to train your child how to pet the family furry friend. Show your child how to use "gentle hands" and how to pet the dog lovingly on their back. Don't let your child put their arms around your pet's neck or "hug" your dog no matter how tempted they may be. Also, many parents underestimate the strength of their own child.

Don't allow your child to pull on your dog's ears, or grab tufts of your dog's fur.It is very important for you to train your child to have respect of all animals to prevent any aggressive behaviors that may come their way. Your dog may not be as patient as you when it comes to dealing with little children.
Meeting Children on Walks With Your Dog:
You probably will run into several children who will want to pet your dog when taking your dog out for a walk. You will want to take caution when this happens. You don't know exactly how the child will treat your furry pet and how your dog will react to the child. It is very important for you to train your dog how to act when approached by children.

When socializing your furry canine to new people and animals, always remember that you must be calm and in under control every time.

Next, don't let the child approach your dog just quite yet. You will need to pay attention to the child's energy levels and how they are making your dog feel. If this child is very excited to meet your dog, you furry friend may feel a little unnerved and threatened.

Your dog will not understand that they are dealing with a small child who doesn't want to hurt him. Your dog will only be aware that this little human is making him feel uncomfortable. Protect and safeguard your dog's welfare when it comes to children. Bad experiences with children may make your dog uneasy around children in the long run.

If your puppy feels up to it, you can allow the child or stranger to hold out their hand for your dog to sniff. If your dog reacts well, praise your dog.Don't forget to tell the child or the new stranger how your dog likes to be touched.

If your dog is feeling very uncomfortable with the child, it is best you tell the child that your dog is very young and is in the middle of training and politely excuse yourself. The last thing you want to happen is someone getting hurt.

Understand that your furry four legged friend doesn't understand that children are curious creatures and just want to get to know him. I suggest using caution when you're introducing your dog to children for the first time. It is very important you socialize your dog to other people and animals to help train your dog to have positive interactions with other living things.
