Let's say that you have decided to read more about something so you do a search online. You pick out one of many results that Google has called up for you and click it. Then, once the web page loads, you get a big surprise. Instead of viewing the page that is supposed to have the content you need, you are forced to cope with a pop up. This is an ad that refuses to be shut no matter how hard you try--until you type in your e-mail address into it. Finally you may close your browser completely because you are so irritated. The site operator has won!

So many individuals hate pop ups—and with valid reasons. They're frustrating. They intrude on what you are attempting to do. When they play music or other sounds automatically they get you in trouble at work or with the people in your family who are also in the room. They promise outrageous things. They need that you type in private information into them if you want them to close. Some even place malware and cookies in your computer systems. There are very few individuals who really enjoy being confronted by these annoying things and yet, so many Internet Marketers use them. How come?

The real truth is that IMers make use of pop up ads because they get the job done. They command attention. They help marketers create e-mail marketing prospect lists. It has been proven again and again that a pop up ad will yield more opt ins than an opt in box placed in a sidebar or in the body of a web page. They sometimes even result in direct sales. Sadly, these stupid pests really get the job done a lot of the time so, unless someone can make a better tool to use, most Web marketers are probably going to keep using them.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that a lot of Internet Marketers should continue to use them. What kind of value can there be to an e-mail address that is solely given under duress? Usually what happens is the person just opts back out of your list as soon as they receive the first e-mail from you or even your company. How beneficial can page viewers be when the majority of it clicks away because it is upset by your ad? Of course you want to generate profits but really--is that the only way to do it? Couldn't there be another solution available to those who want to create an e-mail list and sell things?

The authentic truth is this: if you have a fantastic product and you can present it in a good light, you won’t really need to use a pop up. Concentrate on building a very high quality product or service so that you don't have to rely on irritating pop up ads to do the job for you. Create your sales and splash pages in a persuasive tone. Grab the reader's attention and then don't give it back using just the power behind your copy and site content. The simple truth is that Internet Marketers only find success and online revenue when they make products that others are going to find valuable. No pop-up ad may be substituted to disguise the lack of value in a product.
