Unfortunately, there are more people these days getting diagnosed with sleep apnea. The problem is, most people go about their lives not even aware that they suffer from sleep apnea. As a result, these individuals may find themselves falling asleep at the quiet, inactive parts of their day. They may also experience feeling as though they aren't as well rested in the mornings as they used to, or even headaches occurring in the mornings after waking up. It's also not uncommon to be more forgetful, not being able to concentrate, and not being able to remember things. Other signs and symptoms may also include feeling depressed, feeling moody or irritable, more frequent urination at night, and a dry throat when you wake up. One of the most common signs of sleep apnea that is easier to detect is snoring, choking and/or gasping for air as a result of having your airway blocked while you're sleeping. Your partner or a family member may notice this change at which point, you may want to contact your doctor to schedule either having a sleep test done, or using a special monitor that detects sleep apnea that you'll actually take home and use. Either process is painless and precise. Once it's been concluded that you do indeed have it, the next step is to get you set-up with a (Continuous Positive Airway Pressure machine), to restore your breathing by allowing the airflow through your airways without having the restrictions caused by sleep apnoea. Typically, the airflow is blocked or has collapsed during sleep. Although sleep apnea is most common among individuals that are overweight, anyone can be affected as well. By using a CPAP machines, you will reduce the risks of high blood pressure, stroke, heart attack, obesity, and diabetes. Having sleep apnea is a life changing condition. It will require some lifestyle changes in regards to what is required to be properly treated. It's a good idea to consult with your physician to come up with the best game plan for you. With some individuals, the solution maybe surgery, and with others, it may involve breathing devices such as the CPAP machine which is the most popular. There are several models that are available locally as well as online. Just be sure to do your research to make sure that you get the right one for you. It is extremely important to get a good fitting mask that is not only comfortable, but will also eliminate air leakage. Sleep Apnea is not the end of the world. The first and most important step to living a more productive a quality way of life is to get tested to see what your options are for treatment options. From there, the rest is easy.
