Women and men have different body frames and sizes. The body is categorized into three frames namely: small, medium and large frame. A person with a large body frame size would weigh differently than a person with a small body frame size of the same height. One can determine your body frame size by two ways.
Although there are many ways in which weight loss is measured using the height and weight of a person, the size of the body also should be taken into consideration. The body frame is size is determined by either measuring the circumference of the wrist or the breadth of the elbow. Measuring the wrist is easier than measuring the breadth of the elbow but the elbow width is a more accurate method.
Wrist measurement Method: Wrap your fingers and thumb of one hand on the wrist of the other hand. Do this on the smallest part of the wrist. If your fingers are overlapping each other, you have a small frame. If your fingers are not overlapping but touching the thumb, you have a medium frame. If the fingers do not even touch and have a gap between them, then you are a large frame.
You can even measure the circumference of the wrist with a measuring tape to determine your body frame size.
For women:
If your height is less than 5 feet 2 inches:
1. Wrist measuring less than 5.5 inches is a small body.
2. Wrist measuring between 5.5 to 5.75 inches is a medium frame.
3. Measuring over 5.75 inches is a large body frame.
If your height is in between 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 5 inches:
1. Wrist measuring less than 6 inches is a small body frame.
2. Wrist measuring in between 6 to 6.25 inches is a medium body frame.
3. Measuring more than 6.25 inches is a large body.
If your height is more than 5 feet 5 inches:
1. Wrist measuring less than 6.25 inches is small framed.
2. Wrist measuring in between 6.25 to 6.5 inches is medium framed.
3. Wrist measuring over 6.5 inches is large framed.
For Men:
If your height is over 5 feet 5 inches:
1. Wrist measuring between 5.5 inches and 6.5 inches is a small body.
2. Wrist measuring between 6.5 to 7.5 inches is a medium frame.
3. Wrist measuring over 7.5 inches is a large body frame.
Elbow Measurement Method:
To measure your elbow, hold out your arm so that it is parallel to the ground. The palm should be facing upwards. Then bend your elbow such that the forearm is up. Find the narrow area of your elbow by using your thumb and finger. Measure this using a tape.
For women: Medium Frame
1. If your height is 4 feet 10 inches to 4 feet 11 inches: Elbow breadth between 57 to 64 mm.
2. If your height is between 5 feet to 5 feet 3 inches: Elbow breadth between 57 to 64 mm.
3. If your height is between 5 feet 4 inches to 5 feet 7 inches: Elbow breadth between 60 to 67 mm.
4. If your height is between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches: Elbow breadth between 60 to 67 mm.
5. If your height is between 6 feet to 6 feet 4 inches: Elbow breadth between 63 to 70 mm.
For men: Medium Frame
1. If your height is between 5 feet 2 inches to 5 feet 3 inches: Elbow breadth between 64 to 73 mm.
2. If your height is between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches: Elbow breadth between 67 to 73 mm.
3. If your height is between 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 11 inches: Elbow breadth between 70 to 75 mm.
4. If your height is between 6 feet to 6 feet 3 inches: Elbow breadth between 70 to 79 mm.
5. If your height is between 6 feet 4 inches to 6 feet 7 inches: Elbow breath between 73 to 83 mm.
The above 2 methods are used to determining your body frame size.
